I'm pretty new here .. have been low-carbing for about a year (started about 6 months after the birth of my 3rd child) but more intensely since discovering Dukan last November. Have had a few weeks of abandoning caution (Easter!! chocolate!!! wine!!) and am now getting back on the straight and narrow. Am 5'10" and have been around the 133lb mark for about the last 6 months, but would like to be about 126lb - anyone else out there with similar issues?

I follow a lower carbohydrate higher protein approach while also limiting my calories and have been very pleased with MFP and its tools. I don't know much about Dukan, so I can't comment on it specifically.

Do you follow it pretty strictly? I did it a while ago but didn't track calories. Now that I'm on MFP I'm curious to see how that particular diet would fit my calorie counts. Just curious....

yep, I do primal and it works very well on here, just have to adjust your settings. I have been reading about Dukan and don't think I could limit myself that strictly to proteins but I have been eating the oat bran a couple times a week. It sounds like it should work though. Friend me if you want, I'm always open to low-carb buddies :)

I've been on MFP for about 9-10 months and just started the 17 day diet two weeks ago. I'm finding the calories I'm consuming this week are about 3-400 below what MFP recommends. During the first week it varied, sometimes more and sometimes less. I think now that I'm getting things undercontrol I'm eating "better" and foods with less calories.

I didn't have a big loss in the beginning like some other people, but lost almost 6 lbs. in 10 days. I think that's pretty good since I was really watching what I ate and counting calories before I started the 17 day diet. I really like the diet and hope to use it all summer. I have a long way to my goal, but it's not an ureasonable diet. It's very low carb/high protein.

    I hope this helps.
  • It does seem to bring me in quite a lot below my calorie goal each day - on a "pure protein" day the other day I ate low fat yoghurt, prawns, salmon, eggs, had skim milk in my coffee ... and was a good 300cals below my 1200 cal goal. I'm done with food for today and am about 250 cals under. (have had low-fat yoghurt, prawns, egg whites, massive salad, smoked salmon ....)
  • and what is the oat bran supposed to do?

according to the Dukan book it provides a bit of carb to create a feeling of fullness and prevent, ahem, blockage problems

It also supposedly has some benefit to your intestine, but can't remember what it was ...

I don't eat red meat or poultry and it's been okay for me .. quite boring though. I've relied on non-fat dairy, tofu, fish, eggs .... like I say, boring. But you do get to eat veg every 2nd day after the initial pure protein "attack"

how do I friend you please?

Dr. Dukan allows tofu and tempeh but no other legumes or grains in the first 2 phases. If you eat eggs & dairy, you *COULD* do Dukan but it would be awfully restrictive. If you eat seafood as well, Dukan wouldn't be bad at all.

That's the strictest variation of the 2nd phase. I'm doing 5 days protein + veggies and only 2 days pure protein. I think that's healthier even if it means a slower weight loss.

This is going to sound crazy but I can only stomach so much dairy. I can't eat soy based meatless products because it affects my visit from mother nature too negatively and I don't eat fish. I get my protein from eggwhites and beans mostly =( Probably wouldn't work for me to eat ONLY those things w/o veggies and w/o much whole grains.....sigh.

LOL- I guess that answers my question.........thank you =)

I agree ... much easier to tolerate psychologically as well. I found that alternate days was too depressing and quickly changed to the 5+2 pattern, esp as the book says it's a good one for people with not much to lose.
