I basically need to have a low glycemic diet. Plus should not eat refined sugar or white flour. Trying to stay low cal. For sweeteners I can have agave, maple syrup, honey and fruit all in moderation. Hoping you all have some good ideas. It is getting harder to just eat fruit for dessert. Missing baked goods. I would love a recipe that doesn't make a lot either. This I won't get temped to over due it. Thanks so much.

as far as dessert goes, you should try plain, fat free greek yogurt. You can add fruit to sweeten, or agave. I sprinkle some cinnamon on mine as well. Yummy!!0

Even carbs that are not refined (like whole wheat flour) will cause insulin spikes - just not as quickly or dramatically as refined stuff. Your best bet would be to limit your carbs totally, and get what you need from veggies (primarily), and then fruit. It'll be easier for you to help get rid of carb cravings. I've been doing that for about a month now, and I can see a dramatic difference in how I look and feel already (bloodwork is tomorrow).
The problem for most people is that having carbs (even the "good" stuff) makes you want more carbs. You get on this insulin yo yo, up and down, up and down.....if you lower your carb intake (by cutting out the bready stuff and cereals, basically), you become more even keeled with your insulin levels, and don't get those wicked carb cravings. My diary is open, if you want to check the last couple of days, that's pretty representative of what I eat. I don't completely eliminate carbs - I'll have cereal/oatmeal, or bread, every now and then. But if I had cereal in the a.m., that will practically blow my carb count for the day, and then I have to eat basically pure protein/fats. If I don't have cereal (I usu. have greek yogurt or eggs), then I have more leeway during the day, for more veggies, fruit, and maybe a slice of bread or tortilla.0 -
I have tried to cut way down. I can't even remember the last time I had my favorite food. PASTA. I loved it and would have eatin it every day if I could have. I eat whole grain or sourdough if I eat bread and haven't had any baked yummy goods at all but are craving them more and more lately. I just don't want to do bad and have something totally wrong. I just want a healthier option. Thanks for the good advice. I will try to aspire to that but It will be a journey to give up carbs all together.0

Ice cream: 1 frozen diced banana mixed in food processor (add vanilla protein powder, cocoa, milk, peanut butter, etc)
Chocolate chips: 1 banana, 1 tbsp canola oil, 1/2 cup cocoa powder combined in food processor, rolled out on sprayed wax paper, frozen and cut into small chunks http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/224659-sugar-free-chocolate-chips

All of these recipes are no sugar added, low in calories, do not involve honey, splenda, sugar or agave nectar. They are sweetened completely by fruit. Enjoy!0 -
Quinoa pasta is delicious and is also high in protein Just a tip: rinse it off before you cook it and constantly stir. I also substitute regular quinoa for rice. Also look up clean eating deserts. These only use clean non-processed sweeteners. I don't know about whole grain flours. I am GF and use Bob's Red Mill mix as my substitute.0
