so i joined about a month ago and i been trying really hard to get to know my 'calories' which i was totally ignorant about before. i avoided the scale that whole time and when i got on i was so sad to find that i had gained way much. could it be all that new glasses of water i am drinking now? but 10lbs of it? when i first began i had to learn all about fiber, pretein etc. so now i take this fiber drink and more intake of water. gash, i'm not even making any sense cos i'm so upset.. i'm still struggling with adjusting to this calorie counter and what i should eat and shouldn't eat. i don't know anymore .. never been on a diet either just chose to ignore the fat comments from people until i no longer felt comfortable being out of breath chasing a 3 kids. i should be able to keep up with my own kids

Be really, really careful about your portion sizes! That used to get me all the time--I would eyeball what I thought was a serving of rice or cereal, and in reality I was eating 2 or more portions and tracking them as 1! If you haven't been measuring your portions, make sure you do! Good luck!

i think i need a food scale like a friend had suggested, she too mentioned the eye balling thing. i was actually measuring things that i could with measuring cups but the weight thing i was trying to eyeball. i have been exercising too ..this is harder than i thought but am thankful there is a place like this site which really helped me to see what i am eating and breaking it down for me. thanks for your reply

carolinedb has a good point. Definitely watch the portion sizes. But also watch the sodium.

I agree with what everyone has said. Watch portion sizes, and log in everything. A scale may just be what you need. I wouldn't have been able to do this without one. Watch your sodium as it causes water retention. Give your body some time to adjust to intaking more fibre and water. If you have just started working out, or have increased your exercise, give your body some time to adjust to that too-- remember, muscle weighs more than fat! It will happen, don't give up!

Don't get too down on yourself! Even of you haven't seen results you are still working on it, and that's a great step! Keep at it!
