    Here's a link to the program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/index.shtml

The point of C25K is to gently ease people into running without either hating it or injuring themselves by incorporating short (but increasing) bursts of running into half hour walks. By the end of the program, you should be able to run continuously for 30 minutes or 3.2 miles (5K).

There is absolutely no emphasis on speed here, and it's OK to repeat days or even weeks if necessary. You should take rest days bewteen program days too.

There are several podcasts and smartphone apps that will keep track of the timing for you, so you may want to download one of those.

All that you need is a good pair of running shoes. You should go to a specialty running store to be properly fitted for those.

Couch to 5k takes you from zero to 5k in 9 weeks (or more if you need to repeat days). It's a great program. You can do it manually (stopwatch), or there are all sorts of iphone apps and podcasts that will tell you when to walk or run.

<3 c25k. i started and finished it. When I first started I remember being so proud of myself bc i actually ran 60 seconds straight. In 9 short (but long) weeks, I was able to run 30 min straight. I definatly recommend this program to anyone who has a desire to start running.

    Have a look at www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx

Really good resource and free podcasts - good luck!

I literally never ran in my life (walked the one mile test in high school...refused to run it).

At the ripe age of 42, last August, I started the C25K.

I cannot say enough about the program and how well it worked for this non-runner.

I downloaded the app to my phone and used that...worked great.

I have run three 5ks...will run my 4th one and my first 10k next month. I think I will then train for at least one 1/2 marathon. Although running for more than hour will bore me to tears.

Good info. you've gotten so far. I use the coolrunning website personally.

The podcasts are neat, they tell you when to start jogging, walk, etc. Just google C25k podcast, there are a few out there. You might not always like the music...in which case you can make your own (Nice because its music you like...but it is kind of a tedious process)

I've liked it so far. I have had to repeat week 1 a few times, but I wanted to get through week 1 completely and without feeling super winded or tired before moving on to week 2.

I can't say enough great things about it. My workout buddy and I started it 8 weeks ago and we've gone from struggling through 3 minutes of running to running for 28 minutes straight. You really have to push yourself, especially once you get to weeks 4-5, but it truly works. Take it from me, I've always hated running and in high school was probably the least fit person of my class. When I started, I couldn't even finish a 1/4 mile lap around my town's high school track. Now I'm running 2 1/2 miles straight through. I download an app for my droid that keeps the time and beeps when it's time to switch between running or walking.

The only thing is that you will probably need a good jogging playlist to keep you going. I find that the hardest part of running for a half hour is not that I get tired, but that I get bored. Keeping a good, upbeat playlist of songs you enjoy takes away some of the boredom.

Thanks. I was wondering about making my own Podcasts.

All pros no cons - I was one who couldn't jog more than 20-30 secs at a time.
I'm doing week 5 and keeping up to a 5 min non stop jog.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking into this program as well. We have a great running path right near my house, that I think I may have to start on.

Not sure why but I didn't click with the C25k. I started by running as far as I could on day one, then again on day two, and so on.

Having said that, it has worked wonders for my wife and I'd echo the various bits of advice about music, making your own podcast is great, I actually made a set for my wife so it was me encouraging her and music that she liked.

If you have a good idea of your comfortable running pace (which you will after a few weeks) http://jog.fm is another good resource for finding music with the right tempo.

I did C25K last fall, loved it...working on running my first 5 mile race on 5/7 and then prepping for a 10K after that. Good luck with the program if you try it!

I too was NEVER a runner...I did play sports, but selected them because of the minimal amount of jogging required (softball coach never made us run)...and I played first base (not too much movement there either)...!!!!!

when I ran my first 20 minute duration during week 5, that was the longest I ever jogged straight in my LIFE

tonight I am doing week 8 / day 2...love the program

I personally use the treadmill program (http://c25k.com/c25k_treadmill.html)...after I finish week 9 inside I will venture outside...I like the control the treadmill gives me (have a little issue with control) and I had to know how fast and the distance I was jogging

in my 38 minutes Monday night I covered almost 2.6 miles...5 more days of the program

if I can do this as an over weight 40 year old woman...anyone can do it!!!!!!
