I felt so much better after I unloaded here yesterday about the chicks at the gym and the blahs, I'll drop another one.

I'm a closet smoker. I "quit" before I split with the ex, because he went bananas about it. Didn't smoke for about 6 months, then I started again. I tend to pick it up, and put it down periodically. The only place I smoke pretty much, is in my car when I'm driving.

I use it as a crutch for stress and boredom, much like eating. In fact, yesterday, after my "crappy day", I couldn't wait to just have a smoke. And this morning, as I smoked my face off in my car, I felt like garbage. I don't think I've ever felt this crappy after having a smoke - I had a headache, my nose was stuffed and I just generally felt bleh. So, I decided that I was done with it, and threw the pack away, along with my favorite lighter (which I've never done).

The last time I "quit", I used Nicorette, but I honestly just felt like I was addicted to that, so I'm not going to do it.

There! I said it :-)

Your post sounds like I could have written it myself! I have been a closet smoker since 13! First I hid from my parents, then I hid from my first husband who HATED smokers, and now lastly from my second husband who didn't care. Finally the guilt of lying to my second husband got the best of me and I confessed and then quit. I am now going on 10 weeks smoke free (cold turkey). My biggest downfall is the car(1 hour drive to work) and then when I travel(boredom). This time I am making it stick and I know you can too! Best of luck and let me know if you need any support!

    GOOD LUCK!

I've never smoked, but my husband has quit after having a heart attack in March. He's gone 45 days, and counting! Doctors say the nicotine addiction is at LEAST as hard to beat as heroin. I just read a tip here on MFP -- substitute Twizzlers for a cigarette. It gives you something to do with your hands? I dunno. Stay strong! (and chew gum? LOL)

    You can do it!

How did you find that you handled the "nic fits" when they happened? You know, the jitters, etc?

Congrats on 10 weeks! That's awesome :-) Sometimes my willpower is the sh&ts, and I'm a little worried I'm going to end up just thinking I can quit it again.

I guess I never really experienced any of the nic fits. I guess I have stronger willpower than most(when I want to). As long as I do not allow myself to buy a pack. My advice would be take a walk to clear your mind. Just remember that you are stronger than you think and you will beat this!
