ok so i am a married lady, mother of 3 and im in serious need of some new dinner meals!! i like to cook and experiment and although im not totally great at following a recipe i do like to give new things a try!

i have a husband who luckilly eats just about anything (except pork and tomatoes!) a 12 yr old son who will eat everything and especially likes spicy foods, a 7yr old son who is a tad on the fussy side, he doesnt particularly like meat he has to chew or things in sauces although he is getting better at that but he does love vegatables! (although not salad veg annoyingly!) and a 4 year old who will try anything but not keen on spicy food!! i'd like to find some recipes that i can do for us all as a family! i like just about everything although not toooooooo hot and spicy and i dont like beans, pulses or lentils but everything else is a yes!

Does anyone from this wonderful site have any ideas?? please feel free to add them on here! or if anyone else is having the same problems at mealtimes maybe we can swap ideas??

My husband and I like to use Newman's Own Low Fat Sesame Ginger Dressing to put in different dishes. Here is some of Newman's recipe ideas.

Also, since we are from the southwest, I like to make what I call "bean bowls"

    1 cup fat free beans
    1/4 cup avocado or quac.
    1/2 cup cooked chicken
    Salsa (gimme)
Light sour cream (serving size 2 tbls)
Corn Tortilla strips (35 calories a serving)
You can also add tomatoes and/or make it a salad

I've founds a lot of wonderful recipes here: www.kalynskitchen.com

She did South Beach Diet, so many of her recipes are geared towards low carb healthy meals, but you can easily add in some carbs of your own. She has some really quick and creative ideas.

I also like www.eatingwell.com for it's variety and clever ideas.

    Good luck!
  • I was checking out the Yoplait two week tune up (because I am a curious person) and I liked some of the dinner recipes they had! Here is a link http://yoplait.com/twoweektuneup/weekly-meal-planner I'm thinking of making the thai chicken tomorrow! :)
I also found this cookie recipe... I know you're looking for meals, but I just had to share this because I REALLY want to try it. They sound so tasty!! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Healthy-Banana-Cookies/Detail.aspx
    Good luck!!

This has been my go to blog lately: http://www.skinnytaste.com/ The husband and I have tried 4 or 5 recipes and they've all been fantastic. Our current faves are her greek turkey meatballs (http://www.skinnytaste.com/2010/08/greek-turkey-meatballs.html) with skinny tzatziki (http://www.skinnytaste.com/2010/08/skinny-tzatziki.html).

    Good luck!!

allrecipes.com has a section on low calorie recipes... There is a ton of ideas and you can make your own recipe log to keep track of the ones you like or want to try. I made the seafood stuffed zucchini the other day and it was really good.

I am a big fan of Ellie Krieger--she has a show on the Cooking Channel called Healthy Appetite. I also bought her cookbook "So Easy". It is arranged to have quick breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes as well as sections for recipes when you have a little more time. You can pretty much make anything in the book and stay on track--as long as you eat the portion suggestion. Most recipes are for 4 adult portions.

I also second the Cooking Light suggestion. I have used so many of their recipes.

My hubby and I are both working to lose weight and we realized that it would be difficult to stick with it if we only had a few healthy recipes to cook each night. It is so much easier to pick up take-out when grilled chicken is on the menu again. These resources have helped us eat the foods we love without going nuts.

    Good luck!

When I was growing up, we had a lot of "build your own" dinners- baked potatoes with a few toppings (tuna, mayo dressed coleslaw, cheese, cottage cheese with pineapple, chicken salad if we had leftover chicken from the previous day or meat sauce if we had that as leftover...), taco bars (cheese, ground meat, salsa, salad), etc- those were always a big hit because 1) everyone created the meal with what they liked best, 2) kids are more likely to eat things they have helped create! My mom loved it because whatever toppings were left over, could easily be used for lunches over the next few days. Individual pizzas were fun too- we often used baguette to make them and everyone would put their own toppings on- ham, pineapple, cheese, corn, mushrooms (all my favorites- my brothers loved just putting on as many olives as he could fit!)

Chicken kebabs are great too- just grill skewers of chicken and put out different dips. A popular one with kids is peanut butter mixed with a tiny bit of soy sauce and chilli sauce, or a creamy salad dressing (we just mixed mayo + ketchup!) Hummus, honey mustard, tzatziki (Greek yogurt sauce) and salsa are other low cal options. Serve with some pitta bread or baked sweet potato fries and salad

My husband and I just discovered a new favorite this week.

Chicken - Breast, meat only - cubed and cooked.
    Sugar Snap Peas
Sun Luck - Stir Fry Baby Corn
    Bok Choy, sliced
    Mushrooms, sliced
    Bamboo shoots - Canned, drained
    Fresh Cilantro
    Orange Bell Pepper, diced

    D & D Gold - Madras Curry Powder
    Garam Masala

Stir fry - Spicy, but not too spicy and OMG!Delicious.
