GAZELLE

Hi my name is Jean, I am 60 years old and need to get in shape. I need to lose at least 50 pounds. I live in Wisconsin and the weather will be getting cold here so I am going to get going on my Gazelle. We have Netflix so what I like to do is find one of the series I like turn it on and try to Gazelle through the entire thing. I probably will need to start out slow but that's okay, I will build up.

Is there a group for people who use the Gazelle? Anyone had any luck with the Gazelle?

Hoping to make some friends along the way. Good Luck to everyone on their journey.

No - it's the Tony Little thing where you swing your legs forward and back. Have you seen the couples Prancercize? http://geekologie.com/2014/08/that-prancersize-lady-is-back-this-time.php

OP- I live in northern Illinois so I get the weather thing. I like Leslie Sansone walking DVDs and rebounding (mini-trampoline).

OP, I haven't tried the gazelle, but if it gets your heart rate up, it will work fine.

I've used an Arc Trainer which is very similar and I love it. For me it's lower-impact even than the elliptical and burns just as many calories.

I can't say you have a bad idea, I mean you're exercising in some capacity through a TV show, and that expenditure is going to increase your calories out part of the equation.

I'm very familiar with the brutal winter thing too, but I know most gyms have a heating system... if you were adventurous and wanted to try out things other than the Gazelle.

I don't think it burns many calories. The calorie counter that comes with it is ridiculously inaccurate. It's great for increasing flexibility though and good for beginners or people who genuinely are not physically ready for more intense activities.

A bunch of workout dvds would be cheaper and more adaptable to your fitness level (as it will increase) if this is about at-home workouts.

I have a Gazelle but I don't burn many calories on it. I use it on my rest days because I feel horrid not doing anything all day and it is low impact so I'm still having a bit of a rest.

You can't rely on many of the counters on many of the machines because you have to add your weight and age into it.
