Cutting Out Soda

I had been drinking about 2-3 sodas a day for the last forever, however since starting Insanity last week I haven't touched the stuff. My question is this, I have heard that by simply cutting out soft drinks from your daily routine you can drop weight, but just how much can I expect to lose by getting rid of those effervescents? I am not counting on just by cutting those out I can quit working out, but I imagine that by cutting them out I should be getting into shape quicker, right?

i cut back on not only soda but juice. they are both equally terribly for you.

i cannot say how much of my weight loss was a direct result of cutting back on sugary drinks because i madde other changes as well. all i can say is that it wont hurt to cut back.

i usually have a 222ml can of pop once a week now...i also have a cup of juice on the weekend..

I think that would be hard to determine since everyone loses weight differently.

I have also just started to cut out soda completely, but I gradually reduced my intake and am now at that point that I (think) I can go without. Until now (day 6) I have been doing ok.

The cans of soda are around 150 calories each. 150 x 3 = 450 calories per day. 450 x 7 = 3150 calories per week. It takes about 3500 calories burnt to lose a pound, so if you cut out 3 cans of soda per day, and didn't replace those calories with anything else, you could lose a little less than a pound per week just cutting out the soda.
  • I'm trying the cutting out soda thing too! I've been drinking poweraid and gatoraid.which a whole big bottle lasts me all day..and they poweraid with 0 calories.

Yeah that, and only if you were eating at maintenance before... which I'm guessing most of us here were not doing.

Are you drinking NORMAL calorie filled soda, or diet? If diet, drink what you want.

I cut out all soda and (sweet) iced tea on August 24th. That date is like "engraved" in my memory. I only drink water now, and have lost 14 pounds.

I am a firm believer that diet drinks are worse for you than regular. Calorie-wise, it is zero, but increasing reports are proving that drinking diet drinks still encourage cravings and the feeling of not being satisfied. I have watched friends and family switch from regular soda to diet soda and never lose an ounce. They are still fighting a weight problem decades later, but drinking the faithful "Diet Coke" daily.

I personally cannot drink any artificial sweetener, so I decided for me, drinking only water is what is best for me. I was a sweet-tea addict and still can't believe I have "NO" cravings for it. My skin has improved, my moods have improved, and I've lost weight. I've told myself if I ever crave soda or sweet tea, I'll have a small glass. But I can honestly say, I have no desire for it. I feel SOOOOO much better for eliminating these drinks from my diet. I would encourage anyone to give it a try!

My weight was going up and up and up before I quit drinking REGULAR soda. This was years ago. I switched to diet and started maintaining. When I stopped drinking diet soda and switched to water, I lost 10 pounds.

I drink soft drinks, zero calorie soft drinks, water, milk, I eat cake, ice cream, cookies, pop tarts etc. What you drink/eat makes no difference for weight loss. calories do. I found, two years ago, that its better for me to eat foods I love in proper portions along with a healthy, balanced diet. Cutting foods/drinks that I love out of my diet was unsustainable. Oh, and move some.

You will lose nothing if you are still eating in a calorie surplus after you cut out soda.
