Running on Starvation Mode

To anyone who has ever experienced this frustration, please share with me what you did to break out of it and continue to lose weight. I picked up running with hopes of losing weight faster than just dieting. I'm logging about 15-25 miles a week plus additional strength training and I have myself on a 1650 calorie diet. According to the Mifflin-St. Jeor formula my BMR is 1456. It's frustrating to think I have to eat more than I can handle daily because I'm putting my body in "starvation mode" resulting with weight gain. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

starvation mode is a myth

Sounds more like metabolic adaptation. Basically your body is used to that amount of activity and amount of calories, and has adjusted to maintain (survive).
I would slowly add some calories back in to your diet and try to maintain your weight for about two weeks... then reduce back to the 1650. Example: Add 25g of carbs (100cal)to your daily goal the first week, and then add an additional 25g the next (so you would be around 1850 per day). Then take those 50g away the third week and see if you lose weight. That should help get you out of the rut.0 -
