As a 50 year old now, I can tell you it's never too late. Make a specific plan, follow it come hell or high water and within a year, you'll be shocked at how different 51 will be.

  • I guess we call it a diet out of habit. You are right, as the weight lose changes our health, the benefits improve/change our lifestyle. Changing old habits from head to toe! Thanks for the reminder!

This IS NOT A DIET! It's a lifestyle change...to be done this way for the rest of your life. Why do people keep saying this is a diet like they are going to quit once they reach their goal weight?

While I may be making lifestyle changes, that doesn't mean that's the only option here. These are great tools to track calories in and calories burned but how people choose to use the tools is up to the individual. Because I plan to use them long term doesn't mean someone else can't use them effectively in the shorter run.

Best of luck Pethouselady on reaching your goals for change. Besides the great tools here, you can find a great network of Friends for support and fun!

18 months ago, I was 50yo and 232lbs. I got winded walking up three steps to my front porch. I now weigh 176lbs (still have 20-40lbs more to lose). Today I ran a 4K run AND started training for a 2-day, 150mile bike ride in April.

No diets for me. Just eating less, moving more. A moderate caloric deficit and daily exercise, along with consistent effort is all it takes. And really, the exercise is optional.

    Way to go Calliope!
Welcome!!! I'm almost 49 but I found I Had to do this when I realized I wasn't as healthy as I thought and, unlike you, I started late with kids and I have two little ones to raise, so I need to be here as long as possible!

So many give up so young and think "Oh, I'm 50, Its normal to be big" No its not! So glad you are here and ready to make a change!

Feeling good tastes a lot better than ice cream!
