Why are kettlebells so expensive?

Why do kettlebells cost so much?

They're not cheap even on Craigslist.

This is probably a long shot, but does anyone know a store/website that sells kettlebells at a lower price than other places?

Assumably it's a supply and demand thing. They're pretty popular so not that cheap? Try TJ Maxx. I know they have them cheaper there in the UK, so may do Stateside (if that's where you are).

Take a look at muscledriverusa.com - they have some on clearance.

My feeling is they're a specialty item with demand, but less so than plates and bars.

Check used sporting goods stores. Some sell them new, too. I've bought them there. I've also caught decent online sales with free shipping.

They're still $35-$40 each but I only need two and they're more compact than my dumbbells and barbells so they're all I use. Nice, heavy dumbbells aren't cheap, either.

I second the person who said look at used sporting goods stores or even your local thrift stores. I bought a barbell plate at a thrift store the other day for $1.99.

You can also try Dicks, Olympia or Champs.

Check out PerformBetter.com or RogueFitness.com. They both have sales from time to time that make them more affordable. Also, the quality of the bells is much, much better than what you can get at Dick's, Walmart, Meijer, etc. for about the same amount of money.

You really do get what you pay for with these, and most of the ones you find in the aforementioned stores have crappy finishes on them. They aren't smooth, have snags on the handles, the bottoms aren't flat, etc. so that you will have to sand them down before you can even use them. If you don't, you will tear your hands up something terrible. Granted, the ones from the websites I mentioned may still need a little bit of sanding as well, but it will be significantly less than what you will have to do with others.

Its just one of those "niche" items I think......they probably dont sell to many of them? lol....just a guess.....That and you gotta think, it's a lot easier to make a steel "plate" than it is to make something as odd shaped as a kettle bell? :P

PerformBetter... that is the site I got a nice 12kg vinyl coated one on sale for $45 or so, free shipping, years ago. I waited a while for that deal, though.
