Food scale

I am looking in to purchasing a food scale. I have done some research and it seems to be a very effective tool to have in the kitchen. Can you measure any food on the scale? For example, today I am cooking chili. Would I be able to calculate approximately my calorie intake by placing my chili (and bowl) on the scale?

No. With a lot of things, there will always be a degree of error. Meat in chilli will always vary in terms of fat content for example. Loads of people like weighing. I just prefer to save time and overestimate a bit.

Yeah, my measuring cups have been doing just fine, but was curious about how to count calroies for soups, casseroles, chili, etc..

If you weigh the individual ingredients, you'll be able to calculate the total calories. Or, let the recipe builder do it for you :)

Yes. If you know the total calories in the pot of chili, then you can get the approximate calories per serving with a scale.
