Off meds and gaining big time

I'll try to keep this short. I suffer from depression. I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and after several medications found one that worked for me. I hated having to live on a pill. I've stopped taking it 3 times now to try to wean myself off and now I haven't taken it in about 2 months. I do "okay" but that's beside the point. Anyway since I stopped taking it I've GAINED 15 pounds in 2 months. Nothing has changed, not my eating, my exercise schedule but I've still gained. This has happened every time I've stopped taking the pill. No matter what I do not I can't even lose 1 pound. Any ideas?

    Hi

I don't have an explanation for you but the same thing has happened to me. After about a year on fluoxetine (prozac), I started to come off and my weight went from 135lbs up to 157lbs from December to March and I wasn't eating crap! I also continued to exercise 4-5 times a week but whatever I did, the weight kept creeping up! Since March, I have only managed to lose 7lbs :(

I feel your pain and would be interested to hear how many others have experienced this

Hi. I also suffered from depression. I was taking Paxil at the time. I also didn't want to live taking pills. I stopped taking it and went thru some really dark days. It took me a while, but I mustered up the energy to incorporate exercise starting with walking and yoga. That slowly helped my mood and mood swings. I eventually started going to a free gym offered in the building that I worked in every day. Long story short. It has helped me gain so much more happiness. The more I worked out the better I felt, not to mention losing weight. Sure there were up's and down's, but that's life. You weather the storms and come through with guns blazing and pick right back up where you left off. Watch your food intake. Drink tons of water. If you like soda, which I used to drink TONS of, don't drink it or limit yourself. Hold yourself accountable and be consistent, over time, you will see the weight come off. You can do it. I believe in you. I have been in your shoes. Keep your chin up and don't quit fighting the good fight. :D;)

if you had diabetes and had to take meds, would you? if you had cancer and had to take meds, would you? depression is an illness just the same. take your meds! not even for the weight issue, (which by the way, i have no clue why that would happen) but for your health. i have bipolar disorder and i live on meds. that's the point i LIVE on meds. without them, i have no life. it took a very long time for me to get to that place - i was like you...didn't want to take meds. i wouldn't even take tylenol for a headache. now i realize that there is a place for them. :flowerforyou:
