food database help- pasta?

I am trying to find a "generic" type entry for "pasta" like I have for rice, chicken etc.

I just want to enter 56 g of uncooked pasta as 200 calories and have it say "pasta" in my list to make it easier to find later no matter what brand/type of pasta I am using. Same as I have for rice!

When I type in "pasta" nothing appropriate is returned in the search results? What am I doing wrong?

Yeah I ended up doing that but found it hard to believe there is no entry at all for just pasta? Maybe there isn't. Guess I can add one in if it matters that much to me I just thought maybe I was searching wrong. Weird!
  • I put in Thin Spaghetti and it brought up loads of entries for "NOODLES". That's the old-fashioned word for pasta LOL.

Different pasta has different calorie contents; most likely why there is not a generic entry. I have several different types sitting in my pantry right now, and they all do not have the same calorie content.

aha! That might be the answer then. I have 5 different kinds in my pantry but all the same and the other entries I have found for similar product has been within 10 calories for the 56 grams so I didn't realize the calories could vary so widely for dry pasta. Thank you!

No problem! It can definitely vary by brand, ingredients used, type, ect. I always do it exactly, because being 10 calories off can add up over time if you don't pay attention!
