Swimming underwater (Sinus Issue)

I am desperate. I looked online for an answer and it feels like I am the only one in the world with this issue.
When I swim underwater at my local pool and hold my breath, water enters into my upper sinus and I instantly get a painful and burning sensation in my upper sinus (Eyebrows) and takes minutes to recover from the pain.
I use nose plugs, but I rather not use them if I can find out why water is entering my sinuses.
Help!

Your ears are part of your sinuses too. Wear swimming earplugs.0

I used to have an issue similar to this when I was younger and I hated wearing a nose plug, too. I learned to blow a small amount of air out of my nose immediately after submerging my head in the water. This would create a little air pocket in my nostrils and prevent water from entering in. Eventually, it became second-nature to do this and I was able to swim comfortably from then on. Hopefully your issue is as easy to fix, but if not I would agree with the previous poster and see a doctor.0
