Am I being unrealistic?

My wedding is in mid September. I've got 10 months to lose 40 pounds. August will have my last dress fitting and I'll be maintaining that weight/figure until after the wedding.
I'm working on adjusting my diet and fitting in exercise where I can. However, I'm generally a sedentary person. Is 40 pounds an unrealistic goal for me?

Is it possible? Absolutely.
Is it realistic? Depends on you. How bad you want it?0 -
Congratulations on the upcoming wedding!
At a pound a week, it's doable, but will be a lot of work. You'll need to find the right balance of nutrition and exercise to help you lose this in a healthy manner.
There's a post that a lot of people here use...something about a "Guide to Sexypants". I'd say start there!
Good luck!0 -
I lost over 50 pounds in that time frame - about 5 pounds per month. I was very obese, so it was not that great a stretch. Just make health and fitness your new lifestyle, and also start planning now on how you intend to continue your progress after the honeymoon.
Good luck and congratulations!0 -
Congrats on the wedding. It is absolutely possible as I have lost 30 pounds in the last 6 months. I included a number of links below that should be helpful.

I think it's very possible, especially if you're willing to be less "generally sedentary"
Congrats and good luck!0 -
You can do it! Congratulations, what a great thing to look forward to0

Yep, you can do it, with the right changes and commitment.0

Absolutely do-able.0 -

Congratulations on your big day. Staying motivated for 10 months is going to be the issue I would imagine. Losing 40 pounds in 10 months should be acheivable as long as you can stay focused.0

Something to also keep in mind ... personally I do not do well under that kind of pressure. And believe it or not your mind set & emotional well being can have a HUGE impact on the progress. SO if you are not one of those people who thrive on pressure, you may want to consider setting mini goals & once you reach that set another one & so on.
P.S. Congrats on the engagement!0 -
It's certainly realistic. I've lost nearly 37 pounds since May!0

Ive got about 30lb to lose for my wedding in July next year, easy do-able. Increase exercise and weights. That's what I`m doing plus eating at a deficit.0

Yes, it's very realistic.0

40 Pounds is not unrealistic. I have lost 16 in 6 weeks. You just need to be eating the right kind of food. Honestly I only use MFP to connect with others so they can see what I eat versus following their calorie recommendations. According to MFP based on my diet I'll weigh over 200 pounds in 5 weeks when in fact I am steadily losing weight. It's all about what you're eating not how much of it. You can do it just learn what's right for your body. I'm mostly sedentary as well I only exercise about 20 min a day when I take my dog for a walk.0
