Newbie...kind of

Hi, my name is Rose. I've been using MFP off and on for over a year while trying to lose weight brought on by some health issues and menopause. The health issues have been resolved but now menopause is kicking my butt and although my weight has stabilized, it hasn't decreased. At 5'4" tall, I have a small frame and my knees and back can't carry much weight without aching. Ideally, I'd like to shed 40 lbs and get back to my pre-menopausal weight.

I walk between 15 & 20 miles a week and also hit the gym 4-5 times for classes or weight training. I think my diet is a huge issue. If I'm not hungry, I don't eat. I don't drink soda, eat fast food or consume much alcohol but I do like chocolate. I typically opt for about 3 oz daily just to take away the craving.

Anyone have any suggestions about counteracting the weight issues caused by menopause?

  • Hi Rose,
The not eating part probably isn't so good for you. Typically if you don't eat enough, the body goes into starvation mode and starts storing fat.

Another thing I have learned is that as we age, our bodies become intolerant to many of the things that were not problematic earlier in life. Nutrition is one of the keys to losing/keeping weight off, and getting rid of stored toxins in the body is another key.

I'm on my way to doing both, now that I have an understanding of what I was deficient in - vitamins/minerals, the right foods to fuel fat loss, and how to get rid of the toxins.

Send a friend request if you'd like to be able to see what I'm eating, and how I'm managing it. :)

Thank you Leslie. My doctor has also mentioned the not eating problem and I'm working on correcting that. I would love to chat with you more and have sent a friend request.

I had the same issue before and then, i started using mfp and consistently tracking my food.
I thought then, that I don't eat much. But mfp helped me realize i wasn't.

Track your food intake and make sure you eat within your daily calorie goal.
That and the exercise you do, will surely help you lose weight.
    Good luck on your journey.
