So I joined MFP a few months ago... I think... and recently got back into it. I'm the heaviest I've ever been; the doctor's office weighed me at 169lbs. Nobody believes I weigh this much, which is good I guess, but I feel like I look the fattest I have ever looked. I'm really depressed by my body shape and so I've done some things to try and get rid of it.
  • -Got the app. Useful for tracking calories, but I tend to eat under my 1500 calorie goal naturally anyways, so this seems less than useful.
  • -Tried eating mostly vegetarian and sometimes vegan meals, since I had high cholesterol from my last blood work. (Weird to me since I am only 24 and it does not run in my family)
  • -Kicked dairy milk. This initially helped me lose about 10lbs, but I seem to have put it back on.
  • -Joined Planet Fitness, which I went to a few times a week for cardio and strength training, but fell off that wagon.
  • -Did the Couch to 5K challenge with my boyfriend... got to week 7 and we also fell off that wagon.

It's hard for me to stay motivated. I make millions of excuses for myself which I later regret but cannot seem to stop. I have asthma, which doesn't help, but I think sometimes I just use that as an excuse.

I'm thinking my next step is to go to a real gym and get a personal trainer. I don't have the dedication or desire to work out at home, and working out with my boyfriend is good and bad, because he lets me make excuses to not do things. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don't know what to doooooooooooo. :(

  • I have a wall in my apt bedroom that has motivational quotes and pictures of other goals. Like a picture of a boxer puppy, a place I want to vacation too, a Buddha anger quote, a picture of a townhouse I would love to own one day, a fitness quote, and pictures of beautiful places I’ve been too. All of that I see every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to sleep. It helps keep me motivated in all aspects of my life.

One of my most favorite quotes that really puts it into perspective is that time is going to pass whether I do what I need to do or not. So I can look back and again beat myself up or I can look back and be proud of myself.

ALSO, one salad is not going to make you fit and one double cheeseburger with extra fries will not make you fat. One day in front on the couch in front of the TV will not make you fat nor will one 2hr gym session make you fit. Everything is related to consistency.

You’ve gotta give yourself a break. You’ve gotta find WHY you’re on this journey. Is it for you or someone else? Is it because you want to be proud on the beach for one season or because you want to be fit for a lifetime? Are you trying to impress someone else or be proud of yourself? Is it because you were hurt by someone’s comment or because you know you deserve what you want? Essentially you need to do this for you, and you need to find out why you’re doing it for you, and what you want your end result to be.

I am on this journey because I feel trapped by the 20 extra lbs I’m carrying around. I also have a lack of respect for myself because I’ve let this happen. I also have an old injury that hurts extra when I’m out of shape. I also want to look super hot for my boyfriend. I want to be unashamed to wear cute shorts in 2015 summertime. And, I know I can do it, I just have to stop being lazy.

Opensunflowers, I think you need to identify why you are truly on this journey. It took me forever to find out why, but now that I am doing it for me and my reasons, I am able to stay more focused. Even if I have a bad food/workout day I just remind myself and do better the next day.

-sorry for the long reply :)
