Keto - Paleo/Primal . . . help??

Hi,

Well I have been a part of MFP for 3yrs apparently, however only now I am actually really doing something!!!

Sad I know!!

I have on and off for most of this year been following a paleo/primal diet, with great results when I am actually behaving myself . . .

I am getting back onto that wagon this week, and following it religiously instead of as and when I feel.

But in my reading and research I am finding more people advocating a "keto" diet.

Can anyone direct me on a simple way to implement this?
I have so far found it rather difficult, at least in theory, to implement.

Paleo/primal is something I can do quite easily as long as I plan.

Keto seems very structured which I am not all that used to.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!!

Thank you!!!

if following paleo/primal is so hard for you, then why not just eat at a 500 per day calorie deficit, and work out/move more? Seems kind of crazy to keep trying something that is not working for you ….
  • I don't have an issue with following paleo/primal, I just get lazy and don't want to plan.

if you can't plan and you get lazy, then you can't follow paleo/primal …

why do you have problems planning? Is it because of the restrictive nature of paleo?

    This.

I do keto and have no problem with it. Then again, I have to do low carb. If it's not something that you can stick with, you're better off just limiting your calories.

I breathe i'm hungry dot com will give you keto meal plans and grocery lists for the week..if that's what you mean about not wanting to plan things out. Her recipes are delicious.

No, when I follow I follow to the letter and I'm fine, but if there is a slight hiccup in my life, ie earlier this year I walked in on an armed robbery which threw me off, it took me ages to get back on track.

It will probably be easiest on you if you stop buying high carb items. My lunches and dinners usually consist of a protein and a vegetable. I use olive oil, coconut oil, hemp oil, natural mayo, creams and cheeses to get my fats in. I really like chicken stuffed with feta and Spinach with broccoli as a side. The sausage, spinach and feta fritatta on I breathe i'm hungry is really good. I'm going to have that for breakfast today.

I also have desserts with coconut oil, Stevia, and cacao powder.. Or even heavy Whipping cream whipped with sugar free jello pudding mix. That way I still get to have treats.

Maybe you need to address some of your emotional reason you eat ( believe me, I have tons of them). If events throw you off it doesn't quite matter which plan you are following.

I thin NDJ's point is that you are using these eating styles as a "fad diet" which has been demonstrated by your on again off again way of eating. And while there is nothing wrong with doing Keto or doing Primal/Paleo, there is no advantage to following any of those lifestyles. Personally, I find it easier to lose weight when I don't follow a restrictive diet. I did Paleo for 6 months and I continuously binged because of the restriction. Personally, what I would suggest is not being so restrictive, use a food scale and log daily. If you want to incorporate Paleo/Primal foods, then great. But the key to weight loss is a deficit, not the type of diet you are on (outside of medical conditions).

If you do plan on going Keto, then you need to spend a few weeks educating yourself prior to going on it. It is a very aggressive low carb diet and you have to understand which foods you can eat and how to implement to ensure proper nutrition. We have a few groups on here which can help. I believe one is called "reddit keto".
