I totally agree. If I went by those rules I have lose 30lbs woo hoo. Lol, but seriously 9 months pregnant is not a starting weight!

Some women don't automatically lose 20 lbs after 4 weeks. I put my weight when I gave birth on there as a comparison to how much I gained while pregnant to where I was before pregnancy.
  • Agreed, lol. Realistically, I think about 4-6 weeks after giving birth is a start weight. But if someone finds it encouraging to look at it that way, then so be it. Whatever creates success!

Losing weight IS losing weight no matter....this website is intended to be positive, sounds more like jealousy. I lost weight since January due to both giving birth and working hard to lose more of it. I'm proud of those who lost weight period...not to criticize or even look down upon. Having kids takes such a toll on your body and they feel proud just as I do.

I lost about 20 pounds the first week after having each of my kids. In my head, I knew that was likely to happen but it was still exciting and encouraging. There are people who take their heaviest weight and use that as their starting point. If that heaviest weight was the day they gave birth, so be it. There are plenty of women who gain A LOT more than the recommended 25-30 pounds. I don't see anything wrong with using your pregnant weight as your starting weight. Weight loss is weight loss and if you get serious about your health at 9 months pregnant, that's when your journey begins.

In all honesty, there is no right and wrong when it comes to this. Try to be happy and supportive of people here, not judgmental.

Personally I wouldnt have counted it BUT I wouldnt judge those who have or do. Weight is weight, whether its the intially water weight that falls off after having a baby or the first week of going on a diet. My sister in law and I were pregnant at the same time and when I gave birth it took approx 2 weeks for me to lose 30 pounds....she wasnt so fortunate. Depends on the person.

KUDOS TO LOSING WEIGHT AT ALL! :-)

AGREED!! While I know you still FEEL huge (because you are) when you're 9 months pregnant... it's annoying to see the before pictures of the 9 month pregnancy to their goal weight. I don't care if you use the lbs you weighed at 9 months, but that picture... you are obviously going to look a lot bigger LOL.. Those before and after pics don't really motivate me

those who are like 160 or not big at 9 month preg ( in my book 160 is tiny I AM big LOL) and then have that pic and then them at goal weight. that does not motivate ME ( BUT MIGHT FOR SOMEONE ELSE) but if someone is 305 ect they prolly did not gain that much while preg and thats a huge loss for them.( even if they did gain 50 or 60, they would have still lost about 100 pounds in a year!)... to each their own..I have preg pics on my profile b/c I was monstrous but when the day comes when I do my before and after I wont use those pics. I will use one from my MFP start weight. Since the morning I gave birth just b4 I was up 60 lbs or so from where I am now ( daughter is 16 months) since starting MFP I have lost 23ish. I am STILL PROUD of those 60 or so pounds I have lost. I only gained like 30 while preg so it is an accomplishment. I ALWAYS lose ALL my preg weight by my 6 week postpartum and sometimes even more( 3 pregnancies and ONE was twins ) . I guess I am lucky but it is still weight loss. I could have only lost what my kids weighed and a couple more additional pounds for the placenta ect. Some people dont lose it right away. My mother brought my brother home from the hospital she weighed the same as she did 9 months prego..she was PISSED! lol everyone has an opinion ands some are just way angrier than others EVERYONE should concentrate on their own weight loss. imo

i agree. personally i don't count my high weight as my pregnant weight but if that's how someone else wants to do it? fine by me :)

I have had five kids and with each successive child it was harder to lose weight after they were born.
    My weight at the end of each pregnancy pre delivery obviously was higher than the post delivery;
however, my youngest is 9 months old and I was as heavy if not heavier starting MFP than I was just before he was born.

Weight DURING pregnancy may be innacurate of YOUR high weight because at least 10lbs is fluid/placenta and there is usually between 5-15lbs of baby. However if you are like me and have gained weight back to the same weight you were, it is where you are and what you want to change.
If someone chooses to calculate this as their highest weight, let them do it.
We are all working at different levels in this. People need to take personal motivation from whatever means they need to in order to accomplish their own goals.
We need often to just AGREE to DISAGREE!!

does it matter what people use to motivate themselves? I did laugh that you wrote a rant, and then made a thread to share it LOL

I put my starting weight as my post partum weight... What I weighed a week or so after giving birth. BUT, I stayed that weight for months. I lost about 10 pounds after each child was born, and stayed heavy for a long time afterwards. I did breastfeed too (still do :)) My youngest is a toddler and before starting MFP, I weighed what I did a week or so after giving birth :(

I wouldn't use my pregnancy weight though. Even though it was only 10 lbs more. ...just doesn't seem right ;)

And I'm SO going to count my pregnancy weight as weight loss. Well, minus the actual baby.

I agree. My start weight is what I was at BEFORE I got pregnant. Mostly because of the fact that during my pregnancy I only gained 5-10 lbs from my starting weight. Im now down 20lbs from prepregnancy weight. I know some of the loss was just post pregnancy (baby and whatnot) but I think that my weight maintance during my pregnancy has played a big role in my current weight.
