Lol don't hate me for the cheesy subject header :P
Just wanted to post my quick observations about upping water intake and seeing if anyone else has noticed the same thing. Obviously the closer you get to your 8 glasses the better for a number of reasons, my favorite being appetite control. But has anyone noticed that after switching almost completely to water that they actually start getting thirstier throughout the day?
By thirstier, I don't mean the feeling I used to get from being genuinely thirsty and drinking diet soda which obviously doesn't satisfy like water, due to the higher sodium, but rather I guess I mean that upping my water intake has made me MUCH more aware than ever before to when my mouth starts feeling dry even though it feels like I drink like a camel. I'm not complaining, since I enjoy the taste of water - just found it to be interesting.
Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I almost feel like I'm addicted to diet coke, whenever I give it up to start drinking just water- I get terrible headaches.0

Actually, just yesterday I was noticing this. It started out when I drank 1.5 L of water on my way to work (I have a 45 minute commute) because my throat was a little (okay, a lot) sore from some allergy issues I'm having recently. I generally drink 2 L during the course of my work day anyway, so by the time I got to work I was already 1.5 L ahead of normal, and then after I got home from work I drank another 1 L, then I took another 1 L to church with me last night and drank that one too. Seemed like I just couldn't get enough even though I was WAY above my usual consumption. I'm on track to doing the same today too... weird.0

I totally agree! I was worried that something was wrong since I am constantly thirsty even though I'm drinking like 20 cups a day. Maybe someone can shed the biological reason for it...cause I'm curious too0

I love water!
I drink at LEAST 8 glasses each day (unless I'm really out of it, that happens sometimes).
I try to drink MORE than 14 glasses each day. The days I pass 14 are the days I feel my BEST!
The first week here I drank 8 glasses of water a day for a week and lost 4lbs. Just from that! I kept eating junk and I didn't work out. Water is so amazing.
Over 4 months later I am still drinking water all day long and this has been the healthiest year in my life so far, I really believe so.
I do feel thirsty, but I never let it get so bad where I have to down 3 glasses in 5 minutes. I simply drink the water non-stop all day.0 -
definitely!!! If I don't get at least my 8 glasses of water a day I will get a headache and also am just thirstier, lol. I think your body gets used to a certain amount of intake of water and lets you know somehow that you need more water.0

You are. I used to be. The headaches are from the caffiene withdrawals. I have cut back gradually, and now I'm usually only have a diet coke in the morning (my morning coffee, if you will) and then water the rest of the day.0 -

Extremely likely you are addicted to caffiene. Give it up, power through the headaches for a few days to a week, and they will stop bothering you. It is difficult but once you break through the withdrawals (the headaches) then you have beat your addiction. You can do it!0 -
I actually noticed this just yesterday. I recently moved to a MUCH warmer climate (moved to FL from MI) and started drinking more plain water. I might actually be drinking too much if that is possible. This was especially the case yesterday, it seemed the more water I drank, the more I wanted. I am just a few glasses away from a full gallon (plus (3) 16 oz bottles before work today. I will have to say that I have felt pretty darn good the last couple of days though.0

@mrchantelle - I agree w/ the other posters it's more than likely caffeine addiction and I think the sodium might play a tiny role as well with that. I knew some girls in high school that could go through almost an entire 2L of diet coke daily! Lol personally I never cared for the taste, I'm a diet pepsi, diet dr. pepper, and diet sunkist fan myself. If the headaches from quitting cold turkey are really impairing you, you can either opt to ween yourself off by alternating diet coke and caffeine free diet coke or use aspirin / acetaminophen / ibuprofen to help w/ the pain. However do NOT, opt for excedrin if you have it because caffeine is one of it's main active ingredients.
As for the rest of yall lol, glad to hear it's common to be more aware of being dehydrated. I was pretty sure it's normal but glad to know I'm not the only one. I've really been loving drinking more water and I just drink plain ol tap water! Even though I've never had skin issues before, I can tell an improvement already in its overall look and I'm a huge fan that dropping the artificial sweeteners has lead to making all of my other foods taste SO much better.
Like others have said, since I'm a nerd who's interested in a ton of subjects I'd love to find some more specific explanation of how the body adapts to the increased intake, but specifics aside these past few weeks of change have made it crystal clear to me how essential water is to my body.0
