Recovering From Illness

A few weeks ago I was struck down with Dengue Fever (it's horrible!). While I was ill I did actually lose around 3kg which isn't too bad, but I wish I had lost it healthily rather than through being ill. I expected some might creep back on now I am eating and it is doing. My wife's friend has just seen me for the first time since we went on holiday in August and said that I had lost weight, so everything is kind of OK but getting back on track since being ill is taking longer than I thought - I am just so tired still. I do get out and I do do stuff just not as much as I want to be doing. I am eating a lot of stuff I don't need to eat and for no reason other than boredom maybe. Anyway, not really sure what this is all about, I think I just need to "air" some issues to myself.
I had just worked into a nice little routine and now my illness has thrown it all out of the window, though I have not reverted to heavy drinking - my main focus at the moment is keeping off booze which seems to be easier than I thought.
Thanks for reading......

Most illnesses, even something as "simple" as a cold will tire out your body.
I don't know what your eating plan was like before the illness, but try eating at least at maintenance level for a week or two, give your body time to get back to normal.
Then try to get back into your regular routines with exercise etc.

Thanks, I will do. I think I over expected my recovery. I was eating in deficit before i was ill. It was steady and I was dropping about a kilo a week. I will give myself a bit rest. Cheers.

yes just rest! Try not to eat crap, but don't worry much about calories. I just recently put back on the weight I lost while sick, then when I went to maintenance I began to lose again, it was trial and error for a bit. Also, once you can slowly get yourself back into a routine the easier it will become and the more energy you'll have.....

    Hey there,
I recently (3 weeks ago) had surgery to remove lesions from my intestines and pelvis caused by endometriosis. Recovery, from anything, is incredibly tough on your immune system which affects every aspect of your life when you're recovering. Before surgery I also drank alcohol quite a bit, but have found that when you're healing it just isn't an option. It's tough, but try to rest when you feel tired and I tend to only eat if I'm really hungry. I tend to eat out of boredom so if I'm feeling bored and I get hungry I tend to go do something else, either read or do some yoga or take a nap or what have you. If this activity makes me forget about it than I know I did not actually want food for fuel I really just wanted it because I was bored. Good luck! And you're right, staying away from alcohol will help you tremendously!
Sending positive healing vibes your way...

Thanks for you replies. I am looking forward to a better new week. I now have a big bowl of satsumas ready for when I feel like snacking.

As a person with several chronic illnesses I feel your pain. It never ceases to amaze me how exhausting it can be to recover from serious illness, or how long it takes. I'd recommend eating at maintenance until you're feeling better. Don't push it too much-- you can easily make it take longer by trying to rush things.
