Cost of monthly charges for Exercise Gadgets, like BodyBugg, etc

Hello Everyone! Question, I know some of you use exercise gadgets and some of these you pay for. I know the BodyBugg charged a monthly fee. Not sure on other gadgets. I cancelled WW today but I love the ActiveLink and in order to keep it I would be charged about $24 a month because you have to keep WW and pay ActiveLink fee. How much are you all paying for your gadgets? I am going to keep it until the end of the year or maybe March -- at least but just want to know what others are paying per month. Hopefully by January 1st Planet Fitness will be opened which is $10 a month with a trainer. Right now it is worth the money. Your thoughts please. Have a good weekend!! :) and thanks!

I'd never heard of Active Link, so I googled it... It reminds me of a Fitbit One, and their tracking is free; they don't charge you a monthly fee. Then again, there's a fitness monitor from Basis, called Basis Peak, that is coming out in November 2014 that says in it's advertisements that it can track your activities, your heart rate, your sleep patterns, skin temperature- can be worn during swimming so it can track that too... from what I hear, that tracking is also downloadable to a free site where you can monitor it.

I'd recommend taking a look at what's on the market as far as fitness trackers go, before continuing to spend a monthly fee each month. Maybe you can sell your ActiveLink to someone else and use that money to buy your new fitness tracker? Or gift it to a friend that you know would enjoy it?

Thanks! They stated you can not gift it and no one else can use it, I was like wow!! A real ripe off for sure. I will get me another one for sure because now I am spoiled.

Thanks, you bet. I am letting it expire even if I don't have another device by then. Save money for investment. I already use a HRM and now it is time to move it up a notch.

I know 2 people who have that little clip thing from weight watchers- and from what I understand it only tracks IN weight watchers- it doesn't link to another source that's redily transferable data- it logs it in "points" or how you have your daily activity and then runs it on a percentage... least that's how the girl at my studio explained to me. It's not the same b/c it's like they have their own internal system.

This is correct and so now that I want to cancel WW, I have to cancel the device and lose money invested intially also.

That sucks that you have to lose out on that money, hopefully they won't charge you a cancellation fee or anything. And it's too bad that they won't left you let someone else use it. But then again, from a business standpoint, I'm sure it financially benefits them, and to heck with their customers, eh?

At least you can check out what your options are, and well... i guess the ActiveLink can be an expensive paperweight, so that you can find something else that doesn't charge you monthly

I use a fitbit, for which I paid $100. I don't pay the monthly fee for the premium features. It gets me a good enough estimate of my daily expenditure that I can control my weight.

I do have a premium Endomondo account, which is about $25 a year, I think. It's of value for the training plan that tracks progress and dynamically updates paces and distance appropriate to fitness level and weekly miles ran.

Beyond counting steps as a rough proxy for TDEE, I believe that other fitness tracker features have rapidly diminishing returns. That's just me, though. To each their own.

A Fitbit Zip is $59 and will probably go to $49 in a month, during Black Friday sales.

Wow, that's wild about the WW Activelink. That company is a head scratcher sometimes.

I think the WW and BodyMedia trackers are the only ones with ongoing fees.
