Carbohydrates....

Hi

On a 1,200 calorie diet (before any exercise), myFitnessPal is recommending to me to have 150g Carboydrates (50% calorie intake) , 40g Fat (30% calorie intake) and 60g Protein (30% calorie intake) to lose a pound a week... Is this not wayyy too many carbs? Especially as the number increases once I have my daily exercise put in!

Just a bit confused so would love to get someone else's opinion, thanks

i dont think that is way too many carbs, its only 150g.... i have my macros set at 40/30/30, but its individual preference really.

but you cant have 50% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protien, thats 110%??

Why would it be too much - it's all about calorie defecit

if you choose to go low carb that's up to you - in which case you can change the macros to suit you

but tbh stick to the calories set and you'll lose even if you eat 1200 calories of chocolate and nothing else (you might not feel that healthy on that and it certainly isn't a suggestion)

    personally I love carbs

You can change the macro percentages if you want.

I personally find higher protein & fat more satiating, I'm on a keto diet.
But then again, I find 1200 calories way too restrictive for me.

Go to settings, check the 'custom' macros box instead of 'guided'...but before you do that, I would look up my TDEE (according to your height, age, sex), and subtract 20%

Sorry I meant 20% fat not 30! I think it's just because everything I read up on seems to be 'low carb' diets and when I exercise my carb allowance goes way over 150g so I just wanted to make sure I would still be losing weight if I did it this way.. Thanks a million

If you stay within those goals you should lose weight. A deficit is what's important. If, however, you find it easier to stay within the calorie goal by eating less carbohydrates and more protein or fat, then that is okay too. There isn't any one perfect plan for everyone. Find what works best for you.

the reason your carb allowance goes up (and your other allowances will go up too) is that MFP factors in your exercise burn to let you eat back your exercise calories. since the site is already providing you the deficit you'll need to lose each week, it's trying to keep the numbers consistent... more burn means you can eat more.

HOWEVER... not everyone approaches things this way. there are 47 schools of thought on whether or not you should eat back your exercise calories. but that's why your allowances are going up. if you don't want to eat them back, what you can do is log the exercises by time and edit the calorie burn to just say "1".

I'd be tempted to tweak your calories before your carbs. 0.5lbs per week sounds more reasonable to me and would give you more calories to play with.
