Hi everyone!! I'm Victoria and started this brilliant app just over a month ago and have been amazed at the results...losing 11lb in just that short time... only to find today id gained a 1lb...may not seem like alot... but i worry as i have both crohn's and Lupus... resulting in me being on steriods = weight gain...last week i had a lupus flare up, which seemed to trigger off my crohn's... i felt so sick most days i was rather low on my calorie intake...(somedays by 500).. I told my mother and she said that my body had gone into starvation mode and clung on to what ever i ate... I have heard of this before...but is it actually true? or another myth?
Would rather appreciate some advice right now... THANKYOU!!

starvation mode the way it's described by most people who use the term is a complete myth
the human body does have survival responses that result in a slowing of the metabolism (adaptive thermogenesis) and slowing of the rate that fat is burned, in response to long term insufficient calorie intake; these responses evolved to help our ancestors survive food shortages...... but there's no way being ill for a few days is going to have that effect. When your appetite returns after being ill, you eat the food your body needs, the short term energy reserves (i.e. glycogen stores) are filled and everything's fine
If you're consistently eating way too little because you are frequently ill from this, then you may face problems such as a slower metabolism, in which case you need to see your doctor and a dietician so you can find ways to get enough food while keeping your illnesses under control.0 -
thank you... i shall contact my doctor...0

if you have an auto-immune flare you're no doubt got water retention for the inflamed areas
I hope your flare has settled down
starvation mode as we tend to use it is a myth - if you eat low calories you lose weight until you die - there are small adaptations but not enough to fuel the bro-science starvation mode when dieting myth0 -
thank you for your reply... yes its finally settling down..thank you
Lupus and the such are so complicated... so you are probably right... if it continues ill contact my specialist..0
