Do compression garments and body shapers help avoid loose sagging skin?

When I was a massage therapist I had a lot of clients who had lipo done. The doctors always had them wear a compression garment after surgery to help with recovery. I was told it helps the skin stay firm during recovery.

I've heard of people wearing compression garments during weight loss to help the skin stay tighter. Does anyone know if this actually works? Has anyone tried this.

Of course you have to wear it all day everyday for it to work i've been told. Not sure if I should pop the $60 bucks for a shaper or not.

Yeah, I am a bit worried about having too much belly wattle after I lose weight. I don't want to have any kind of surgery.

No. Loose skin is dependent on a few reasons:

    Genetics
    Age
    How fast one lost weight
How much weight one loses. Usually anything amount over 80lbs will result in loose skin regardless of they above.

Garments only hold skin in place. Since skin is tissue, nothing topical or external will affect how much loose skin one gets when weight loss occurs.

so then whats the purpose of doctors telling their patients to wear them? Is there another reason for it?

Those types of surgeries peel the skin away from the muscle. The compression garments help keep the skin tight to the muscle until it has a chance to reattach. It doesn't make the skin any less damaged.

Surgery where compression garments are suggested is because the skin was cut open. Even with stitching, staples, etc. the skin can be subjected to being stretched before the stitching, etc. has a chance to heal. Compression garments help to reduce this from happening.
