I tried the Calorie Counter app but had no idea there was a whole site with forums, so now I'm excited to lose some weight and gain/give support!

Good luck, everyone!

Side note: is 1200 calories a day safe? The app calculated this many calories to reach my goal. Thank you!

The app will calculate 1200 calories to lose if you are either very short OR are trying to drop 2 pounds a week but don't weigh much (very generic insight, but there...). It won't go UNDER 1200 calories, because that's not considered safe. How much are you trying to lose, and ARE you very short? Most people don't actually have to eat so little to successfully lose weight. :) If you don't have much weight to lose, maybe drop your desired weight loss to 1 pound or 1/2 a pound per week?

+1 ... all depends on your height :#

    Hello & Welcome to MFP!

MFP is rather notorious is assigning that blanket 1200 for folks under 5'4" maybe even 5'5" ish.

    I'm 4'10" & 1200 was pretty on par.

I think anyone 5'1" & above probably should get a second opinion & use your BMR# instead.

Thank you for the responses! I am very short, yes, 5 feet flat. I will try the 1 lb a week and see how doable it really is for me. If not, I will try your advice, davis_em, and switch it to 1/2 lb a week.

Thanks you for the heads up, Raspberryticklechicken! Duly noted.
