I don't like solid food before a workout. I'll do a drink consisting of BCAAs, arginine, beta alanine, creatine, and caffeine. Helps me stay focused, energetic, and prevents too much muscle fatigue.

What is the drink? Sounds like a good plan.

I like to hit the gym after work. I'll have 2-3 hard boiled egg whites about an hour before I leave the office. Satiates the hunger that's starting to build up toward the end of the day, and it's an easy source of protein.

    dates

Tried that, left me late to my work out and a little too tired for any real volume.

I take a protein shake made with cold-brew coffee and almond milk with some BCAA capsules. The protein/caffeine/BCAA combo keeps me going for a few hours.

I usually eat a banana about 30 minutes before a workout.
  • I tried something new a couple of weeks ago i've been doing ever since, 1100 kcals mixed ~ 160 Carbs 65 protein and 20-25 grams of fat, Then i let that sit for 2-4 hours, When i get to the gym i just explode with energy and can workout with high intensity for 1 ½ hours
I't might seem like overkill but obviously its food for 2-4 hours + workout

Coffee. And (if it's going to be a huge workout...like a 600+ calorie burning crazy run or workout)...a snickers bar :-)

  • I have a plain rice cake with a tbsp of almond butter with half of banana. This really gives me a good burst of energy for lifting.

I use Xtend brand BCAA's, which are flavored, as the base. Really just use whatever flavored BCAA mix you find, they're mostly all the same. Then I just measure out the other powders. Cheaper than a premixed preworkout and I know I'm getting effective doses of each supplement.
