I seem to be losing inches quicker than pounds

I am really happy to measure myself and see that I am slowly losing inches. No complaints there. I seem to be stuck at the same spot on the scale though for the last week and a half. I record my food and exercise daily. I feel a bit frustrated when I read that If you eat like this every day then you will weight xx lbs in 5 weeks. At this point I cannot imagine that happening since the scale is not budging. Any suggestions? I have tried to increase my exercise routine. Actually started a walk-jog routine which is huge for me.
I feel like I am doing something wrong.

Ignore the weight projection - if you're losing inches then something is working. The scale will respond accordingly at some point. I've lost inches in the last month, but not much weight. It happens. Weight is all about calories in-calories out...the pounds will start to go down if you're eating at a deficit.0

Unless you tell them, people don't know your weight. But everyone sees the inches. Losing inches is the best!!
But I also understand your frustration as I am having the same problem. I've lost over 4 inches but only 5 lbs. It seems like I should be losing more weight.0 -
Congratulations! I would much rather lose inches than pounds!0

What's the problem? I'd also rather lose inches than lbs.0

I don't see anything wrong here. I too get a bit frustrated cause the scale never moves for me, but the inches coming off is most important to me. Its only been a week and a half anyway. Keep up what you are doing!0

It's only been a week and a half, keep it up and you will start to see the scale catching up with the measuring tape!0

Here's my smart aleck opinion. The measuring tape and the scale are both instruments of measurement. Only you, as the sentient creature, can assign value to the measurements. Shoot the scale the middle finger as you fasten up those size-smaller jeans and be assured, as habit365 says, that if you keep on doing what you're doing the scale won't have any choice but to catch up sooner or later. You're doing great.0

I'm sorry, what exactly is the problem? And we're talking about no weight change in a week and a half? You didn't gain the weight overnight and you're not going to lose it overnight. Just keep doing what you're doing. I've never heard someone complain about losing inches from their body...
...well, you get what I mean.0 -
I am really beginning to hate my scale. I about ready to throw it off a building. If that is the only measure of success, then I think I will be miserable by its ups and downs.
I am feeling good, exercising, eating good, and my strength is increasing, fat is decreasing, and I enjoy life more... but that scale sucks! It only measures one thing.0 -
Welcome to water weight retention. In a few weeks - maybe sooner - you'll likely see a pretty good drop on the scale.0

I can't help but think when someone posts that they're losing inches but not weight they're just showing off and trying to disguise it as a concern so they can fish for some congratulatory replies. Why would anyone be unhappy at losing inches faster than weight? It's the ideal situation, whatever you're doing, keep doing it and be happy about it - REALLY HAPPY!0

This is my suggestion: As everyone has said, it's easy to get caught up with that number on the scale. The day after I lift I sometime retain as much as a pound of water and it vanishes the next day. Don't weigh yourself as often. Maybe once a month. Pay attention to how you FEEL and how those jeans fit. Keep it up. This will happen for you. Just be patient. Also, make sure that when you DO weigh that you do it at the same time of day in the same type of clothes. Don't get too discouraged. It's just a number. Kinda like how I view that number that they say is my age!0

understand how you feel. I too have same issue. My brain keeps telling me their is only progress if I'm losing pounds. Society has us brainwashed that weight is the measurement of our image. I am just as frustrated and do not take your comments as a way to attract good compliments. i just keep telling myself don't give up. I didn't gain over night so the loss isn't going to happen overnight either. you can do it. thanks for your post good to hear someone else has same frustration i do.0

I would much rather lose inches than pounds. If it disheartens you so much, I would suggest ditching the scales and just go by clothes and measurements. Well done and good luck.0

Okay, definitely a mindset that I grew up with regarding the number on the scale. I also did the BMI test and scored "obese". I realize that can steer you off course mentally as well.
I actually starting this weight loss process about one month prior to joining this site. It seems that once I joined the site and started recording I have been stuck at the same mark on the scale. Thing is I do understand that I was not doing it "right" before and now I am much more aware of what I am eating and how much or little exercising I am doing. The inches is a good thing, I get that, but it is hard to deny that you want to see that scale move as well. Anyway, back at it. I think I will weigh in less...good suggestion. Please note, not fishing for compliments. Glad to be here and share with others. Thank you.0 -
buy an Omron body fat checker from amazon, they are like $30 or so. Not "exact" but will show you your fat %. I think they have a .5 +/- percent error to the result. Only weight yourself ONE day a week, in the same cloths, at the same time, do not weight every single day. Before I got pregnant, I weighed 150. I was wearing a size 4 cloths, with a 26 inch waist, just to put into perspective as to how the scale can "lie". I defiantly did not "look" 150.0

A week and a half? I went six months without a change on the scale, but lost inches and dropped a full size during that time. Ignore the weight projections, and the scale too for that matter, as long as you're seeing progress on the tape measure, how clothes fit, and in the mirror.0
