Afraid of Thanksgiving

Every year I swear that I am not going to pig out, and every year I pig out. We have to go to 2 meals, a lunch at one families and a dinner at another. Everything looks so good, things I never get to have. So then I end up justifying it by saying "Thanksgiving is only once a year and is meant to be enjoyed." Then by the end of the day I feel totally guilty and weak.
Does anyone have any survival tips?

I would bring a couple of side dishes that you can pig out on they have awesome and amazing healthy version of mashed potatos, green bean salad, and stuffing at the hungry-girl.com site.0

Try not to pig out!! Practice portion control if you can, if not, trying taking some raw almonds with you or eat a little something before you go to help fill you up before. I try to fill up on a healthy salad, I bring my own dressing! But I do allow myself a small piece of pumpkin pie or whatever I'm craving & try not to feel guilty about it, enjoy the holiday just try not to go overboard! Get back on track the next day & forget about it!0

I say pig out. You are right... Thanksgiving is only once a year... just change one thing: Don't feel guilty afterward. If you decide to allow yourself to eat, then why suffer afterward? It doesn't burn extra calories! Then eat really carefully until Christmas!0

Put small portions on your plate. Try to hang out in rooms that don't have any desserts in them. Think of how awful you'll feel if you stuff yourself. Enjoy the "not full" feeling. Ask yourself: Is a few minutes of joy in your mouth worth hours (or days, in my case) of your whole body feeling yucky?
We're taking an unsweetened fruit dessert:
Frozen berry medley
Banana
Small amount of low fat milk
Put it all in a blender
The consistency is like soft ice cream and it's delicious! My whole family loves it.
Bring a pack of gum or two and chew, chew, chew!
Good luck! :flowerforyou:

I am voting for, PIG OUT! Enjoy yourself, do you work out? Do a hardcore workout in the morning, or evening, just to offset some of it. Then...wake up the next day...and get back on track....NO LEFTOVERS! With any luck, it will boost your metabolism, and be a good thing. Happy EATING!0

Word on the advice to pig out and enjoy, then not feel guilty afterwards. This is one day out of many, and won't ruin your weight loss. Just make sure to behave yourself the rest of the week, and voila, no problem!
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!0 -
I don't think filling yourself up before is a good idea.... at least, I've tried it and it never works for me. Because the dilemma is still there that there's a lot of tasty food that you never get to have! My suggestion is eat SLOWLY. It will solve sooo much of the problem! Take small portions, and eat slowly so that you can digest and your body will feel full faster. And enjoy it all! Don't let your holiday be ruined because you're concentrating too hard on controlling your appetite. Just enjoy the time with family, and enjoy the food! Happy thanksgiving everyone!!! :happy:0

I know my advice prob isn't the best. I have no self control! BUT I wear a firm compression girdle on holidays or when we go out to eat at a resturant that I tend to over do it at (Melting Pot for example). I can feel totally stuffed, I mean very very full after just a normal portion. Yes, Thanksgiving is once a year, but this year I want to look good come New Year's Eve. Besides for me one really bad day usually snowballs into a bad week........0

I wonder if I wear my jeans that are to tight in the gut will do the same thing. I will just have to wear a bigger shirt to hide the muffin top.
Great idea0
