Does anyone use a Garmin Forerunner 220? Thoughts on it? I received it as a gift and am debating whether to keep it. I run various races but mostly run on treadmill because with two young children, it is just easier for me to get on the treadmill since I run at odd hours. Thanks.

The 220 can also be used on the treadmill.

I'm looking forward to the responses here because I'm thinking of buying one myself.

I love mine and use it for outside runs, treadmill runs and gym classes

I love mine! I am assuming you would use it with the chest strap. If so, you can turn the GPS off when you are at the gym to use it as a HRM. I wear it running, but also walking, hiking, and at home doing DVD's. To me it is the best of both worlds: a GPS and a HRM. Plus, I have the purple one and its cute!

I use a 620, but I usually run outside. I like it, though there are a few bugs in the firmware that Garmin is slowly fixing. I use mine indoors on my rowing machine, just as a HRM, and it works pretty well for that.

The best review of the Forerunner 220, in terms of detail and careful consideration of pros and cons, is the review by Ray Maker (DCRainmaker). I'd check it out.

Edited to add: According to Ray's review, you have to use the watch at least once outdoors, with GPS, to calibrate its internal accelerometer. After that, if you turn off the GPS, it will use the accelerometer to calculate your pace and cadence when running on a treadmill.

Thanks for all the information and feedback. I have a few days to try it out or I can return.
