I'm just wondering if fatter people are more prone to get sick? It seems like just when i finally get over a cold or flu... i get sick again!

it's super annoying and really unmotivating, because no one wants to exercise when you're sneezy and coughy...

have you felt like you get sick less the healthier you've become?

I know that i have an immune disease and it does make my system more prone to getting sick. I have had the flu shot and I take so many vitamins and try to stay healthy as much as I can.

It does make it hard but with me losing weight I hope that I can get better. My doctor told me that it would be a good thing for me to lose weight, so that is what I am trying to do. I go back and see him in Feb. and I think he will be totally surprised with how far I have come. I hope to be down under the 200's by then.

I was actually wondering about this. It usually takes me several days, if not a week, to get over a cold.

I was fine Saturday morning......about mid-day started to feel a cold coming on. By 6 Saturday night, I was shivering with chills, aches and pains, fever, etc. I felt horrible. I took a ton of vitamin c and rested.

I woke up yesterday almost completely better! And today have been mostly fine. I am a little tired and as with most colds, I start feeling a little worse in the evening. But the worst of it is over already and I am doing great!

So, I was wondering if my healthy living and the amount of exercise I do has helped my immune system and made the duration of the cold a lot shorter. Plus, this is the first cold I have had in a very long time.
  • Our bodies need certain things to run efficiently and maintain a healthy immune system.

When we give our bodies what they need, for example -
plenty of vitamin and mineral rich fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains
    enough sleep
    plenty of water
    exercise
our bodies are able to fight off infection more effectively and recover from infections like the common cold faster than a body which is struggling along on the bare minimum requirements needed just for daily function.
There is definitely a connection between overall fitness and being susceptible to getting sick.

    IT'S FROM YOUR NUTRITION!

If you are over weight your body will likely struggle more for every day tasks (including fighting off germs) yes.

BUT the BIG KEY is your diet! As a Dietetics Student, I can tell you the things that I've learned have all pointed towards this!

Plus the most effective way to ward off a cold is to have 500mg of Vitamin C every 12 hours. They've shown in clinical trials that this is the most your body will process before just getting rid of the rest, but that it only stays in your system for 12 hours (my nutrition prof was the one that actually published this study!) lol. So I take a 500 mg tablet of Vitamin C in the morning and one at night! It works! I used to get colds and upper respiratory infections ALL the time, and the number I've gotten this year since I started doing this has been much much smaller.

Plus, notice that if you are eating lots of fruits and veggies, you'll be getting almost all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to be fully healthy, and will be more effective at protecting you against invaders!

    HTH!

I haven't been sick (knock on wood) since August when I started this, even though lots of people have been sick around me. I failthfully eat healthy (a couple slip ups here and there) and make sure I get all the vitamens & minerals recommended daily. It seems to work for me, I always forget to take my multivitamen, so it comes from my diet. I have probably just jinxed myself.

I noticed when I caught a cold this year it lasted 1 day.....as opposed to 3 weeks last year and the year before.

I also have started using ONLY my pen to sign for things. I know it sounds silly, but man have you seen what ppl do with their hands just prior to picking up that pen and passing it to you!!

I have cut my colds to nearly none due to this and now NONE due to proper nutrition.

I dont think be 'fat' per se gives you a cold, I think eating unhealthy does. 1200 cals of Micky D's is not going to give your immune system the nutrients 1200 cals of lean meat, veggies, fruits and whole grains.
