How do I keep myself going during a workout, when it gets tough?

By making it a habit. My lifting days are Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. No motivation required.

Within a workout, we-l-l... lifting heavy weights is supposed to be hard. You keep grinding out reps with good form.

You're too young to remember this, but when I'm wiped, I remember the game packman. I picture that little chomper dude eating at my fat. That usually smacks me out of my lack of motivation.

Sometimes I chant to myself, "You're strong...you can do this" over and over.

I'm outside, so once I'm half-way, if I want to quit, Too Bad! I still gotta walk home, lol.

It's the starting that's sometimes a bit of a chore for me. Once I've begun, no problems.
  • Remember why you started and how bad you want it. In just a few more minutes you will be much closer to your goal.

The feeling of accomplishment is definitely the best motivator: the harder the workout, the greatest the satisfaction of finishing it.

Music also works great for me, it takes away the pain when it gets tough.

But mostly... give it all, dig deep... you'll find it!

Keep going and be proud of yourself! B)

Are you trying to do too much too soon? Maybe split your workout into 2 parts or find something active you enjoy instead of a structured workout?

It's good to push yourself to reach fitness goals but if you're just starting out it's more important to establish exercise habits you enjoy or that are at least tolerable -- will power and good intentions don't last.
