I have put on a significant amount of weight in the last 15 years. At one point 7 years ago I lost 70lbs but since then I have put all the weight back on, plus some. I have been trying to loose this weight but I have had no luck due to lack of motivation, I am usually motivated for a week or two and then I fall apart and go back to my old ways. As of right now I am healthy but no if I don't loose weight soon complication will come. Please give me advice as to I really want to live a healthier life style

Don't think diet anymore and start thinking lifestyle change. I don't ever skip meals but I eat better foods (lean meats, fruits & fresh veggies). I eat less by controlling portions and I get lots of exercise. This has been both a weight and health success for me. I have been doing it long enough that I don't miss the crap I used to eat. The best part is you don't stop so there is not really an opportunity to put it back on.0

Losing weight is actually simple in steps. Adhering to the approach and maintaining is the issue most people have because they usually end up using a "diet" program rather than adjusting to an actual lifestyle of continuous eating.
Going from eating 4000 calories to 2000 calories may be too much for some and would unmotivate the person because it may be too restrictive. Like many other things, a subtle approach may be needed. Maybe go from 4000 to 3400. Stick with that awhile, then go down a little more.
Also, it HAS to be priority to you or else the effort will be lackluster and eventually motivation fails.

I think you need to identify *why* you "fall apart". Are you too restrictive in your diet/calories? Are you having a hard time with exercise? Are you self sabotaging? Too much negative self talk? Or just laziness?
Once you've figured the above questions out, the solution can be found.0 -
It's not hard...it's that people set themselves up to ultimately fail, particularly at maintaining.
Overwhelmingly, when people want to lose they become overly and unnecessarily restrictive with their diets (both in terms of what they eat as well as how much) and unrealistic in their fitness approach. Foods get lumped into "good" or "bad" and people follow elimination and/or deprivation diets...these do nothing for you long term and you'll never learn how to eat to maintain. In this same RE, people fail to really learn anything about actual nutrition...if they understood nutrition better, they would understand the importance of context and dosage when talking about "good" or "bad"...and they would understand that it's ok to go out and have a couple slices of pizza now and then or have a slice of cake at so and so's birthday party...and that a holiday or special occasion aren't a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
I also mentioned fitness as an issue for a lot of people...people have this mentality that if they're not going balls to the wall for hours and hours and puking their guts out, etc...then they're not working out. That's a pretty unrealistic and unsustainable outlook on fitness. In reality, people just need to find something that they enjoy that makes them move and sweat a little 3-5 days per week...there is no need to spend hours and hours everyday in the gym...there is no reason to work until you puke or feel sick. Hell, I started out just going for regular walks and went from there.
Ultimately you have to get to a point where your diet (noun) and your fitness are just a part of what you do and who you are. To do that means that you're going to have to teach yourself how to eat appropriately in regards to both quality and quantity of food...it'll really help also to learn to cook so you can use kick *kitten* scratch ingredients that are wholesome and healthy to create spectacular meals that don't necessarily feel "healthy" by standard convention of suck on celery sticks and eat lettuce approach....

I agree it is very, very hard. I found my way out by first incorporating the goal setting techniques developed by Stanford. http://patienteducation.stanford.edu/programs/cdsmp.html
After mastering these techniques, I am no longer prone to bouts of guilt. I brainstorm what I might try differently, test it out, and re-evaluate. This is far more sustainable than fits of dieting in misery.0 -
I agree it is hard to learn how to be healthy. I grew up with a mom who was anorexia... a dad who was a work a-holic.... so there I was at home... living eating .. being me... I had o examples of healthy living what so ever. That lifestyle followed me into adulthood! I ate what I wanted... never looked at the nutrients, the labels... or even thought twice about portion size... Actually.. I did not realize portion size was on a package! LOL! I grew up.. had a family of my own... and decided the best thing I could do for my family (I AM NOT SELFISH.. it is hard for me to do things for me!) .. was to set an example and demonstrate what healthy was. Anyhow I agree... it has taken me years... to actually practice some of the small changes I have read and been told about! But I am changing.... I can see it... feel it and I know I am succeeding in small doses! I have some tips.. where to start for the very beginning beginner... I got them from pros... they stuck... they work... If something doesn't work for me... I try another route! ANYHOW.. Best of luck! If you want to add me... I am not a certified trainer.... I have never had any personal trainer... nor was I blessed with a perfect 10 body shape! I can help though! I know some things that will help others who are just getting started. I have been there!0
