There are many, many people around you on the same path. You just don't know who they are yet. Losing focus and getting side tracked is human and we all do it. It's ok. Focus on the journey not the destination.

Guess what you don't need to lose weight and get in shape? what doesnt burn any calories, what doesnt burn any fat, what doesnt build any muscle, what doesnt shrink any waistlines?

    Motivation.

It's just the toy in the happy meal. Do what you said you were gonna do even if you dont wanna. Because you said you were serious this time.

That in itself is very motivational. . . to me at least :)

It's GOTTA be at the top of your list. If it's just a desire or an idea, it's not gonna happen. Lots of people have great intentions. But intentions don't get it done.

Make a specific plan of action and follow it to a T come hell or high water. That creates consistency and consistency is how people meet their goals.

First off, you're going to be okay. Truly you are. I know you can lose the 51 pounds if you stay motivated. I don't have anyone in my life on the weight loss journey either. I don't let that stop me though! I do Zumba for exercise. It's wonderful! The group setting gives me the motivation I need. I also come on here to the forums...every, single, day. Not lying. I need it to keep me inspired and motivated. I have 94 pounds left to lose. I've lost 20 so far. You can do this, it just depends on how bad you want it! Good luck on your journey!
  • At 3:30 pm in the afternoon, or 6:00 am in the morning, it's really easy to let yourself off the hook and say you are going to skip your workout. It's just your inner thoughts saying "Nope, not gonna do this today". In all honesty, it's not like refusing to get a project done at work and having to deal with those consequences, or choosing not to pay rent this month. It's just you saying no, and enjoying the choice with zero initial consequences.

But, the consequences of saying no to exercise and no to healthy eating add up. It did for me. I enjoyed many months of lounging around instead of exercising, eating and drinking whatever I wanted. I told myself I'd start going to the gym, but never did. Now, when I adjust my pants because they are too tight or when I can't fit into a dress from last year, I can't blame anyone but myself.

I have blamed many other things. For example, dirty dishes and laundry took the top spot for receiving my criticism. I couldn't go to the gym because I had to clean. I couldn't go to the gym because I had to cook. I couldn't go to the gym because I had to do laundry. My pants don't fit now because I had to devote SO MUCH TIME TO EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING BUT ME and now look what happened!

Exit victim mode and that basically reads as - I made excuses therefore I gained weight.

I don't know the extent of what you mean by "depressed at life" but I find crap is always going to pop up. So many things infuriate me on a regular basis. I made the choice to go home and slam 4 beers. It really didn't make the problem go away. Now I make the choice to exercise. That doesn't make the problem go away either, but at least I'm doing something that will only improve my emotional, physical and mental well-being.

The absolute worst part is getting started. Then, after that, the worst part is expecting results right away. All I can really say is just keep doing it. Time flies. Last I checked it was still July. Now it's almost November. If I would have stuck with working out when I started in July, I would have been near my goal now.

Anyways, yes it's hard to stick with it, but it can be done. It just requires you to make a decision.

Happens to most people sooner or later. I had a very sick dog who ended up passing away, and I took a break from the gym, from cutting calories, from logging accurately, and from even thinking about getting fit for about a month. Now it's difficult to gain momentum again, but I'm doing it. I was temporarily derailed by a bad cold, but it's just time to get back on the wagon now.

One thing that's helped me is to stop giving myself an out. Stop debating on whether I'm going to the gym, stop asking myself if I feel like it. I don't do that with things like brushing my teeth or showing up for work. Why is going to the gym different? Why am I making it optional?

Now I just go. I don't worry about whether I feel like it, or I'm in the mood, or if there's a reason to not go. I just go.

    Motivation.

    Exactly....

Motivation is and always will be fleeting. Nobody is motivated all of the time...everybody loses focus at times. Simply relying and waiting on motivation isn't going to get you anywhere. The people that have been successful have made healthful habits..habits trump motivation every time...and bottom line, people that are successful long term just get 'er done.

Yesterday was just a really crappy day for me...really, all I wanted to do when I left work was to go home and see my kids and crack open a cold beer...I didn't feel like going to the gym and hitting the weight room at all. But guess what? I went anyway...because Tuesday night is weight lifting night...just like Saturday morning is yard work day and Sunday afternoon is laundry. I'm not always motivated to do these things...but they need doing...so I do them.

I would add to that, I'm most certainly glad I went...I ended up getting in a killer workout...let out a lot of frustration and stress...got my sweat on and felt great afterwards...then I went home and hugged my kids and cracked open that cold one in a much better mood than I otherwise would have.
