I started MFP on Monday, and I LOVE it!! Today is my husbands birthday, and tomorrow we are going out to dinner at Joe's Crab Shack (for those of you who know that place) and I'm freaked! We've had this planned for a LONG time, but I just started this and I'm doing really well, I don't want one night out to throw me off track. :ohwell:

My plan is to work out as much as I could in the morning, but I need some eating tips. What should I do? If you have been to this resturant before, any meals ideas would be much appreciated. If not, andy tips on how to deal with this situation would be great as well

Salad helps a lot - ask for the dressing on the side so you can control the amount they put on (generally restaraunt salads are just as bad if not worse than the burgers and fries due to the copeous amount of dressing)

Otheriwse - one day will not throw you off that much - you would have to consume in EXCESS of 3500 calories to gain a pound. If you find you went up on your weigh in it is likely do to water retention and you will have a more dramatic loss next week.

In general I am trying to say - go celebrate and enjoy yourself, one day will not kill you so long as it is only one day. This is a lifestyle not a life sentence!

    Happy Birthday to your hubby.

You can always go online and check out the menu and nutrition fact before you go. That way you can look at everything and have a plan of attack early. As always when you think seafood think SALTY!!! So drink PLENTY of water today, more than on normal days. Don't be surprised if you still have like a .5-1 pound gain in the morning, it's only sodium and will be gone in a couple days. Have fun with the hubby!!
  • I have started going on to the restaurants websites in advance to get some nutrition info. But when we do go out ( it isn't often) I generally don't stress too much. Even the salads have lots of calories so why watch other people eat what you really want while you are eating a salad with only 200 calories less. I think working out lots in the am is a great idea and may be all you need to do to not feel guilty( that is always my problem)
    Enjoy his bday!!!!

Joe's Crab Shack nutrition facts: http://healthydiningfinder.com/restaurant/?id=383

Planning ahead is the key to eating out!
  • Look online and plan your meal ahead of time. A lot of resturants now have nutritional information on their websites. Remember that you are not prepairing the meal so you have no control over the salt, so do not freak if you retain a little water. You can retain water up to 5 days after eating something with salt in it and yes, FAT has salt in it. Just enjoy yourself and be smart about what you choose. Have a sald instead of a fried appetizer and either pass on the dessert or split it with your hubby.

    PS happy b-day to him!:flowerforyou:

Thanks for all the great advice...I'm checking out the nutritional info today so I can be prepared (and uping the water intake is a awesome tip!!). I do need to keep in mind that one night is not going to do me in and relax a little bit.

MFP is so supportive, just what I need! Thanks so much!
