So today I decided to create my own smoothie. There are so many options that you can’t go wrong with improvising. Normally I create juices or smoothies with kale, since its loaded with nutrients. Today's smoothie was a plain strawberry banana with a couple extra ingredients. Ingredients and nutrition facts are below. Hopefully you don’t need instructions on the actual process. If you do, one word…blender…or…dumb. JK

16 oz smoothie
5 large strawberries
1 medium banana
1/2 cup low fat plain yogurt
1/4 cup Silk Almond Cocunut blend – unsweetened
1 tsp honey – I used organic
1 tsp flaxseeds
1/4 scoop whey protein (Nitro Tech)
* Next time I will use a full scoop or more of protein.
1 handful of ice

280 calories
16g protein
49g carbs
*banana has 27 grams of carbs, but 15 of those are from sugars and the rest from dietary fiber (doesn’t get absorbed)

What are your favorite juice/smoothie?

Mmmm! I'm going to try using strawberries; that sounds great. Banana gets so boring by themselves.

I had one that was pretty good with:

    4 oz Almond Milk Original
    1/2 banana (50g)
    2 scoops EAS whey protein
1 Tbsp quick oats (what I had on hand)
    1/4 tsp cinnamon
    6 cubes of ice

    265 cal
    29 g protein
    29 g carb
    4 g fat
    12 g sugar
    3 g fiber

    226 mg sodium
527 mg potassium (I like to measure these)

Might add peanut butter to up the fat and make it more filling.

    I like the following-

    Strawberries and cream-
    8-10 frozen strawberries
1/2 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
    1/2 cup almond milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use optimum nutrition)

    Choconana
    1 frozen banana
    1 scoop chocolate protein powder
    1 cup almond milk

    Nanasplit
    7-8 strawberries
    1 frozen banana
    1 scoop chocolate protein powder
    1 cup almond milks
1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
Top with a tablespoon chopped peanuts

Etc. I could go on, but experimenting is fun!

P.s. I like chocolate and regular pb2 for a reeses flavor, banana cream pie protein (by dymatize), and suggest you always use frozen fruit for a creamy frothy shake!

How do you know how many calories are in each smoothie? What is a good protein powder?

i measured and calculated all the calories in each ingredient. Example, one medium banana has ~105 calories, Strawberry ~4-6 calories, etc..
Protein: Depends on the type of protein your looking for. They're different types of protein. Whey, Casein, Soy, etc

My go-to smoothie recipe is always right around 300 calories and 30g protein.

    1/2C non-fat plain Greek yogurt
    1/2 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder
    1T Flaxseeds
    1/2 Banana
1/2C Fruit - you pick, I use blueberries, strawberries, mixed berries, tropical mix
    Splash of non-fat milk

**I actually use a food scale and message everything in grams so that the nutrition is more accurate.

1 cup of non fat plain greek yogurt(or vanilla if you desire) I use fage
1 cup unsweetened coconut milk(vanilla or plain)
1 cup mixed frozen fruit(I use great value which is walmart brand it has peaches, pineapple, mango and strawberries)
1 scoop strawberry protein powder(any kind)
1 tbsp peanut butter(I use organic most times)
1 tsp(or tbsp its up to you) cinnamon
add ground raw flax seed if you want.
I made this and it tasted similar to a caramel apple.

and its not under 300 calories but is under 500. you could omit the yogurt if you wanted to and the peanut butter to make it closer to 300.
