Adkins and surgery

Does anyone have any hints on how to stay on Adkins and recover from major surgery (knee replacement)? Since Adkins has a limited amount of fiber...and since most pain medications tend to have "elimination slow down" side effects....it seems to me that I have no choose but to eat fruits and vegetables to aid in my recovery. This is what the doc recommends to possible head off the side effects. I will be getting plenty of walking in due to the rehab.

Has anyone "been here...done that" while on Adkins?

I was on Atkins for many years. I since have gone to a more healthy way of eating....for me. However, if Atkins is what you are wanting to do I fear you can't do it while recovering from a knee replacement. I had a knee replacement in Jan. of 2012 and the pain meds were horrible on my "elimination", as you call it. It makes you feel horrible. I would say to get off Atkins until you are off the meds. It isn't worth the agony. Just eat a balance of healthy foods. Also start putting metumucil in your coffee or water or whatever you drink. Drink tons and tons of water. It does make a huge difference. It takes about 3 days to work but it is great. I used it the entire time I was on the meds. Eat high fiber bread and vegetables.

Hey, I would recommend listening to your doc. I encourage you to follow the only method you really need to ever focus on, cals in vs cals out, Eat what your allowed, within reason, and you will still lose weight!
If you want to lose the water weight cut your sodium
