Scales vs Reality?

Hi everyone,

I'm very very new here and this is my first post.

I'm trying to lose weight and tone up after a year living in France and eating very unhealthily. I feel like I'm making progress and my clothes do feel looser, I exercise regularly, including a lot of strength-based training and do tend to stick to my calorie limit. The only thing is, I've lost hardly any weight. Not even a kg. These two photos (sorry for bad quality) are when I started, a month ago, and today. I feel like I look a bit more toned, so I was wondering do you worry if the scales don't budge even if you feel lighter?

Looking forward to hearing your opinions guys! :)

Weight is just one factor, If your clothes are looser and you're more toned, it means you're heading in the right direction :)

If you feel like you're making progress and your clothes are looser, thats all that matters.

You've def lost weight in your tummy area.. you know that exercising makes you get more toned and sometimes you weight the same or even more but look much better. For example, two years ago, i used to have the same kilos I have now, but because I was exercising a lot, you can see in the pics, I was actually much thinner, even though I weighted the same. So keep going, you're going in the right direction :D

If you haven't lost weight in a month, you are eating at maintenance.
Eat at a deficit to lose. Use a food scale to weigh everything you eat and log everyday.
    You will start losing.

You can't tell from the photos christine they were both taken a month ago she said.

scg, if you want to see "toned" you will have to lose fat. You just can't see toned while you have a high body fat percentage and you haven't shown us any recent photos so we can't really tell you much.

But i would say you should not rely on how you feel its far too subjective.

A useful alternative to the scales is the tape measure. Because fat weighs less than muscle. if you are losing fat and gaining muscle, this may show up on the tape measure before the scales.

Maybe you need to lower your calorie intake a little bit too. Its what i would do if the scales weren't budging.

Scales tell you how much you weigh. That's it. It's a nice indicator. But it doesn't always tell the whole story. If your scales are staying the same but your measurements are improving then hold the course. Nothing wrong with what you are doing. In fact you will retain and maybe even build a little muscle this way.
