Really need to lose the pounds!

I have been trying to shift the pounds for over a year since gaining alot of fat around my tummy, hips and thighs. I used to exercise alot however I have Atypical Sciatica which affects my mobility so alot of walking or using my legs for long periods causes pain and immobility. I do not eat much and my weight is stagnant at 10 stone 4lbs. I am only 4ft 11 so this is too much weight for me to carry. Any suggestions????

Exercise is not required for weight loss, a caloric deficit is.

Have you tried a calorie deficit?

Get a food scale, log your calories daily and maintain a deficit. Since you don't have too much to lose, set your MFP account to 1 lb per week.

What all the above said. Doesn't seem like your eating in a caloric deficit. Make sure you are weighing and measuring all that goes in your mouth.

You can lose weight by dieting without exercise. It's harder, but doable!

Have you tried swimming? A lot of people with mobility issues do better in the water. You could get those leg floaters and just use your arms. People do that all the time to focus on improving their stroke and strengthening their arms.

Maybe your doctor could recommend a physical therapist? They have amazing ideas, those PT people. And helping people with unique difficulties - that's what they do!! You'd be right up their alley!

I'm sorry that you suffer with that. It has to suck. Crossing my fingers for you to have successful weight loss!

Have you considered swimming as an exercise? I know that people with limited mobility sometimes can swim because it gives them more support. I have thought about doing swim aerobics- sounds like fun.
  • Thank you all for your comments. My calorie intake is usually between 1200-1500. I should have said that the weight gain is due to medication I used to take for depression and pain. I have not managed to lose it. I enjoy swimming and aqua aerobics and will look into this again.
