JMBR cable row modification

In Jillian Michaels Body Revolution workout 3 there's a move where you step on the cable cross it & then push it forward into static rows with the arms. I'm not sure if my strength isn't what it use to be or if it's because I'm using a little bit thicker band than the one that would've come with her kit (mine didn't come with the band she uses in the workout) but I can't even keep my arms parallel for one good rep. Will dumbbells work the same muscles or should I buy a thinner band?

    I am doing JMBR as well. You can try adjusting the length of the band you have. Maybe the length is too short but I assume holding dumbbells will also work the same muscles.

    It's out as long as it can go so I can't adjust it to be any easier. I guess dumbbells with have to do.
