Is a healthy cabbage slaw too much like a salad? I think coleslaw goes really well with sloppy joes!

I have also seen sugar snap peas in stores. They are really easy to prepare and don't need much added (maybe a small amount of salt).

Sweet potato or squash oven fries might also go well, with both of the above.

We always do steamed broccoli with sloppy joes. or sometimes, if we don't want a veggie, i'll do some steamed redskin potatoes.

If you like mashed potatoes I have a great, healthier alternative. Either roast or steam cauliflower and puree. You can add a few small red potatoes if you want, but it's great if you do it by itself too. I usually add in a little almond milk and butter or margarine. It's really delicious and for me, satisfies the way mashed potatoes do :-)

Also I've done this as a base to poached eggs (instead of hash browns). I take shredded carrots, mist them with a little olive oil (using the Misto sprayer) and sprinkle with sea salt and bake until they are crispy. Super tasty!

A couple ideas (sorry for duplicates):

    - Homemade sweet potato fries. Cut the potato into wedges like steak fries, spritz with olive oil, sprinkle with a little cinnamon, nutmeg, and I use garlic (salt is delicious, but we try to avoid it). Into a 400 degree oven for about 40 minutes, turning 1/2 thru
    - Grilled asparagus. I toss with olive oil and steak seasoning, then grill. Leave 'em with a crunch
    - Green beans made like fries. I use frozen beans, spread them on a cookie sheet, spray with Pam, season how you'd like (we use just garlic and pepper), put under a pre-heated broil and bake until the edges are crispy, turning once.
    - I always like fruit as an option, too. We love to grill fat wedges of pineapple.
    - Applesauce. Unsweetened or not, pick your favorite.

    Enjoy!

I love green beans sautee'd in olive oil, red onions, sliced red bell pepper, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Just put it in a sautee or frying pan.

Warning - I'm going to be boring! When I don't know what to eat on the side, I always reach for raw fruits and veggies. Super low sodium, and the raw stuff is just good for you. My favorites with sandwiches are carrots, grapes, and cucumbers. Steamed veggies are great, too, but I always want to add butter and salt to them...

Otherwise, have you tried butternut squash fries? I've heard they are just as good as sweet potato fries but even fewer calories. A baked potato topped with a little bit of the sloppy joe would be yummy. Applesauce would be good, too.

i know you said no salads, but this is what we've had with our sloppy joe's. it's all about what you add to your greens. :)

salad with mango, mushrooms, cucumbers, red onion and blue cheese
    green beans
canteloupe, bananas and pound cake dipped in a dark chocolate fondue

    or

seven layer salad (we are a pea-hatin' family, so we replace the peas with chopped green peppers)
    celery with peanut butter
    raspberry jello
    pineapple
