Feeling so defalted

Alright folks

First post on here so I'll tell you a bit about myself.

I'm 39 years old, married with two kids, unemployed (trying to find work) and very overweight and unfit.

Back in July a new cheap gym opened up close by to me that all my mates joined. They had also been going on at my to join in playing five a side football, but as I'm overweight and very unfit I never got round to playing. They then kept asking me to join this new gym thats opened. I finally got the balls to join and started going regularly and even going for a kick about (not fives though). At this point I still wasn't really watching what I was eating so I wasn't losing any weight.

A few weeks went by and I ended up getting a shoulder injury at the gym that kept me from working out for over a month. I went back to the gym after I thought it had cleared up, but after one session of lightweights the shoulder went again..I was totally pissed off!! Off I go to the doctors again and was given strong painkillers and sent for an x-ray to see if it was a calcium build up in my shoulder, but it came back clear. I spend over a month out again.

I started to get movement back in my shoulder again but I could still feel some pain from time to time. I thought then I would get myself on a proper diet (slimming world) and get my *kitten* back to the gym. So over the last 6 weeks I managed to lose 18lb and was working out 5x a week, this involved taking in some classes at the gym, something I would have never dreamed of before, I was also getting a personal training session once a week and training with Rangers FC's fitness coaches once a week.

Everything was going really well, I was in such a high with losing weight and getting fitter, although I can still feel twinges in my shoulder. I had even given up smoking the week before (still off them now).

So Monday night comes where I do my training at Rangers and get weighed. On the scales I go, the coach asks what I had been doing the previous week...well the previous week I had worked out harder than any other week and was very strict with my diet. To my amazement I had put on 3lb...I was speechless, gutted and so deflated after hearing that. I had to then go and do my training session after my weigh in but I was that pissed off I struggled big time.

If that wasn't bad enough I woke yesterday morning with a sore achillies and a pain in my back thats shooting down the back of my leg and round my groin area. I had to cancel my HiTT class yesterday and my personal training class today and maybe the rest of my classes this week. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it isn't another long term injury.

I'm sooo pissed off right now, I feel that every time I try to get anywhere I get another kick in the stones.

Thanks for listening to my 'feeling sorry for myself' post.

Welcome to the world of weight loss, where things are not linear. It sucks, but the sooner you can wrap your head around that the better off you'll be. Many things can affect a weigh in - what you've eaten (and the amount of sodium in the foods), if you've had a recent poop, food that hasn't been fully digested yet, even a new or more intense exercise routine which can cause water retention. I would lay odds on the last one, since you said you worked out harder than ever in that previous week. It's 100% normal to have higher weigh-ins from time to time, you need to be able to roll with it and not let it gut you. Keep on keepin' on, you're doing good.

Mate, dont let it get you down we all have set backs. Youj might of taken on to much too soon thats all. Just dial it back a bit, and you will get back on track.

Most likely its normal weight fluctuation, (water retention and poop). Great job on your work, keep doing what you're doing.

This is why I don't weigh weekly! I weighed 190.3 on Monday morning, 195.8 Tuesday morning, and 189.4 this morning (Wednesday). Don't get hung up on the numbers - those big quick fluctuations are just water, not fat. You're doing the right things and the weight will come off.

Also don't get hung up on the set backs. Work with what you've got. Don't waste your time getting pissed off about your injuries if there's nothing you can do about it. People with serious disabilities lose weight so you can too.

3 pounds up and down is not a big deal. If you don't see a change within a month than you have a problem with your diet other then that.. Congratz on giving up smoking. thats a huge *kitten* deal. I totally feel you there. been smoking for 9 years, gave up on 1st of august and I put back 18 pounds since then. that might also be messing with your metabolism. well in my case it was the daily 2 large pizzas I stuffed in myself as a 'snack' just to keep me from reaching for a cigarette.

dont give up you are half way there :) I also envy you for having friends to with to the gym, I don't have that any more.
