Getting slightly discouraged....

Ok, it's been over a week since I've lost anything. Well I've gained a couple of pounds and I can't figure out why. I've been exercising and staying within my goals for the most part (especially sodium). I just don't get what i'm doing wrong? I know I've done more weights than cardio this week, but jeeze.

I'm getting slightly discouraged because of it now too :(

I've been feeling the same way recently, and what I try to do is think of all that I've accomplished so far. You've lost 11 lbs, that's awesome!! That's the size of a 2 month old baby, gone. :)

taking a quick glance at your food diary, i'd suggest you perhaps need to be eating more *S*
if you are not eating back at least some of your exercise calories, and trying to reach your NET calorie goal each day, your body will not let you lose easily as it will try to hold onto the calories it does get.
This survival mode is the thing many stumble over here at first in mfp *S*... our old habits are to eat less to lose more, when actually the opposite is true

    edited to add:
i was losing slowly when i was eating about 1000 cal a day... BUT... once i finally made myself eat closer to the 1200 NET mfp said i needed (after exercising) i started losing more!

Everyone has little stalls occasionally. Its 4 weeks since i've lost any proper weight but I think its so my body can catch up...in those 4 weeks of only just over a lb loss (im set at 2lb a week!) I've seen dramatic losses on the measuring tape...4 inches off my belly!

I'd also say that you are probably not eating enough...if you dont want to eat all your exercise calories thats fine but at least net 1200.

Could it be possible you've built up some more muscle? I know in the past I've experienced that.

Have you been drinking enough water? I find if I go below 8 glasses, my weight loss slows down.

Also, just keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. Exercising regularly is going to build up your muscles, sometimes more quickly than you lose the fat. Keep on keeping on and you'll reach the edge of that plateau.

Are you eating your exercise calories? If not, try doing so for a few days. I know some folks swear by it (it's worked for me!)...

Just some suggestions from reading your diary: Cut the sodium down to 1500 mg a day, drink more water and third, eat cleaner - meaning less refined foods and pasta's. More veggies, more lean proteins, good carbs. In the end you can just be up for no reason, it will go back down. Keep plugging away and try not to get discouraged. Good luck!

You need to eat more calories- your net calories need to be 1200. I also noted you aren't eating any fruit and no dairy.

With the whole sodium thing I need more than usual according to blood test results. But ya I've noticed my net calories are way down than usual, so thats probably why also.

I will try eating more for sure.

I get up at 3am everyday for work, so I find it kinda hard to have a proper breakfast other than cold cereal. I'm on the go for 12-13 hours a day....

After looking at your diary, my response is that you need to eat more of your calories and you need to spread those calories out. Your body NEEDS those calories to continue to function, and when you deprive yourself, your body decides to not let go of anything that it does not have to. My suggestion:

Your breakfast looks great. You've got a good amount of calories and plenty of protein to get your day started. If you exercise in the morning, plan to eat a nice protein snack afterwards: string cheese, protein bar or shake, almonds. Something to refuel. Then make sure to get a good lunch and work in another well-balanced snack in the afternoon: make sure that its not just carbs, or you will want to fall asleep. This will give your body a little extra to get over that 4 PM haze that we all have. Once you add in a nice full supper, you should still have a few calories left over at the end of the day for a light snack before bed. If all else fails, I usually grab a glass of milk: good protein, low fat.

I think you'll find that once you start giving your body more healthy full nutrients (whole grain over white bread, healthy fats rather than refined sugars) and plenty of fiber, it will start responding by shedding fat and not just pounds. If you need some sugggestions, take a look at my diary (except today - today has been a duzy).

It's only been a week since you have lost weight - don't get discouraged now! Have you considered a once weekly weigh in? You might drive yourself crazy weighing every day.

And like someone else has said - you've already lost 11lbs, don't sell yourself short, that is a GREAT accomplishment.

My advice - you need to drink more water, and eat more calories. Your daily deficit is huge, try eating all the calories available to you and see what results you get after a couple weeks. The water - aim for 1/2 your body weigh in ounces of water. So if you weigh 150lbs, try to drink at least 75ozs.

    Best of luck!

I do drink at least 80oz a day, but I just keep forgetting to log it.....I try to spread the calories around when I can throughout the day but it's hard when i'm on the go from 3am until like 6pm....

Looking much better, well done! Maybe you can use today as a lower boundary and try not to drop below it. I would say, slowly increase your intake day by day (doesn't have to be overnight) so that over time, you can start hitting your calorie target as close as possible.

See when i first started MFP thats how I was eating, well caloric number wise. And then I don`t know what happened...lol, but good to know it looks good, I`ll stick to it. Thanks :)

Well I've been eating my calories back, and it seemed to have worked. I weighed myself yesterday and wasn't too happy with the 225lb staring back at me, but weighed myself today and it said 219.

Not sure how 6lbs could disappear that quickly, but I did eat more calories
