If you're into something adventurous- bungee jumping, zorbing, parasailing, take a ride in a stunt plane/race car etc
For something less scary, get a nice professional picture taken, swim with dolphins, get a makeover, hire out a limo and be fancy all over town
Experience voucher websites are good for this kind of thing0 -
I went on a spirit walk for my 40th in Arizona.0

I, along with a couple of her friends, put together a surprise party for my wife's 50th Bday. It was a simple evening with about 40 guests for dinner and drinks at a nice restaurant... Nothing too extravagant. All guests paid for their own dinner. I bought several bottles of wine for everyone to share. We still talk about how much fun that evening was... Obviously, you can't surprise yourself. But a simple evening can make some great memories... Happy Bday!!!!0

On my 40th (20 years ago) I threw a huge BBQ. Almost 100 people showed up. Had 4 BBQ's going, 6 Blenders going (Margaritas dedicated to 3 of them). When it came time for presents, I gave my wife a 2 carat diamond tennis bracelet. She wasn't expecting a gift on MY birthday. It was the best surprise ever.0

I'm assuming your birthday is February 5th, if my math is right? I'd go on a singles cruise. Close to Valentines Day, so I know they offer quite a bit of them on the Princess Cruise lines.0
