  • I have it too. I have decided to use medication. I'm not happy about it but at least I feel better.

I had this a long time and didn't realize it. Then it became occasional, full-blown heartburn due to certain medication. When I remember and decide it's worth choking down, the apple cider vinegar route really does seem to work. Take a look on Google. It's pretty anecdotal, but people do swear by it and besides tolerating the taste, it's really easy to try.

You could always try fruit to satisfy the craving for sweets. I love love love grapes. And I keep some in the freezer for when I'm craving a cold sweet. Bonus - my kids love frozen grapes too. :)

My husband has this. He has been told to stay away from tomato products, caffeine, carbonated beverages, chocolate, onions, garlic, citrus, and high fat (fried) or spicy foods. He can still eat cookies, cakes, etc. with no problem. He was advised to eat small meals, don't eat within 3 hours of bed time, and raise the head of the bed. He is also taking Prilosec.

I recommend a book called "Dropping Acid"

I don't want medication for life so I wondered if dietary changes would help. For me they do help.

You will need to find your trigger foods....I can still drink soda (Diet A&W is very low acid). I can still eat apples (Fuji and Gala are lower acid). I'm not a coffee drinker but cold brewed coffee is much lower in acid. Melon & raspberries are low acid.

Chocolate is hard for me to tolerate. I eat it early in the day. A square of dark chocolate seems to give me more bang for my buck. Any late night eating is low fat and very light (light popcorn is my go to)....make it kettle corn if you like.

I'll see if I can find the link to a great list of acids in foods.....not the one I want.....but a start.

You want foods with a higher PH.

I don't know much about it in adults, but my son was diagnosed with it shortly after he was born. (he is 3 now). He was put on medicine and eventually grew out of it. But while he had it, eating smaller, frequent meals as well as not lying flat helped a little. As far as sweet things go, fruit is probably the best thing. Obviously citrus wouldn't help, but berries are a good choice. How about yogurt with honey?

I hope you get some relief soon!
  • I use omeprazole DR (40 mg)

thanks for your replys i am on pantozapole 80mg a day and still not finding much releif but my doc is reluctant to change my tablets yet as she says i am on the best ones i can be on and on the heightiest dose. i have had a camera in my stomach where nothing could be seen that is causing this i weight 10 and 1/2 stone and im my height is 5ft 1/2 i am maybe over weight according to my bmi and carry my weight on my tummy but im not that big i am trying to lose abit of weight to see if this helps which wont be hard with the foods i am allowed to eat. So cannot understand why i have suddenly got this. my doctors says with silent reflux your throat is swollen so i wont get any relief from the tablets until that goes down and in order for that to go down i need to avoid all food that can trigger it at the min alot of stuff seems to be as i am forever bringing up thick saliva guess i just follow my doctors instructions and avoid everything that can trigger it until it hopefully starts to get better. my doctor also put me on dizapam as i am so down with this so hope at some point there is some relief for me. thanks for your replys.
