My wonderful sister gifted me with a $100 NOT to be used on bills. I've been jonesing for a HRM and now need some recommendations in that price range. I exercise alot- treadmill (including jogging), elliptical, fitness classes like turbo kick and total body workout. Weekends I do Jillian or bob Harper DVDs. So I need something sturdy. Thanks for your suggestions.

Polar FT4 - I don't know how much they cost where you are....sorry! In Canada they are about 130 or so but I have heard they are alot cheaper in the other countries!

Whatever you buy make sure it has a chest strape. After a few times you will not even notice you have it on!

    Polar is a great product!

I absolutely love my Polar FT4 . Someone on here recommended it and I am so pleased! It's the best investment I ever made!

Edited to add: I got mine on ebay for $85

I also have a Polar (FT7)--got it as a gift, I think my sister paid about $90 for it? I love it so far! Only used it 4 times so far, and I already don't notice I'm wearing it.

Love my Polar FT7. Got it on Macys.com for 109 plus free shopping, but that might have been a sale. I have heard the FT4 is just as comparable and a little cheaper. Very reliable!
  • I have The Garmin Forerunner 305 & love it! You can find them new for around $120 on Amazon
  • I bought the Sportline SX, which is the same as the Sportline 1010. The SX is sold only at WalMart, Target and KMart. I paid $48+tax for it. Works awesome. Brings the chest strap to keep constant reading. Set it up with your gender, age, weight and the activity level of exercise you wish, or Heart Rate Zone you wish. I set mine up for Fat Burning, which means you need to stay between 65% and 75%. You can manually set it up to specific BPM (Hi/Lo) and it will beep if you are out of those zones. It will keep intervals when you are (I)n zone, (A)bove zone, and (B)elow zone. It will give you burn calorie count. Has timer and chronograph. If you don't wish to use the chest strap, you can simple put on the watch and simply touch the outer ring, anywhere, and it will take your reading; I always use the chest strap, it really doesn't bother that much.

So, take the $100 she gave you, buy this HRM for $48+tax and I can give you my address so you can send me the remaining for telling you about a heck of a deal and saving you some money!! heh.. kidding.. it just makes sense, I checked out several, and I looked into the Polar FT4 and it just didn't make sense for me to spend twice as much for the same thing. I guess if mine breaks down, I still have another $52 to purchase it again. Actually what I did was I purchased one for me and one for my wife.

    Good luck!

I can highly recommend the Polar FT4 - I wanted a polar, because I'd been extremely pleased with a previous one, and the FT4 is the cheapest in their range which measures calories burned.

Polar ft7 here and love, love, love it!! It's comfy, easy to figure out and seems very accurate. I bought a sport line duo and returned it 2 weeks later, it did NOT want to work right, and it took me forever to figure out how to use it!

the guy at the store said that they NEVER get Polars returned. I took it home, and had it figured out in like 5 minutes!

You will NEVER regret getting an hrm. It's totally changed how I work out!
