I have to agree with this.
I don't go to Hooters. I got terrible service there once. There are too many resaurants to choose from to give repeat business to a place that gives terrible service.
In my case the waitress was a total airhead. I could have gotten the same terrible service at any restaurant, but, since there was only one Hooters in town, I'm not going back.
Personally, I could never work in retail or the service industry.

Every location is slightly different I'm sure. Hooters management approached my daughter & offered her a job when she met some friends there one day. She worked 1 day & never went back. Her experience was that the girls all fought constantly & she was expected to hug older guys & flirt with them. She was totally turned off & never even cashed the check she got for the day's work. I think they put it on a debit card or something...which she just threw away. That's saying a lot for a broke college girl!

If I were pretty enough to work at Hooters (never was, never will be as I'm way the hell too old), I'd be leveraging that asset into something that paid better for less hard work.
Pretty is an asset anywhere, and if it were one of mine, I'd combine it with other skills (and you have them or you wouldn't be going to college in the first place) to get my foot in the door to something that played to those skills.
That said, if one of your skills is the enormous patience and acting available to almostbutnotquite flirt in a way that makes people throw money at you (and it IS a serious people skill) and you LIKE waiting tables (some do) go for it. You might be able to make a good thing out of it if you keep control of the situation.
Though if you are that good, I'll point out sales can pay a lot better.0 -
i don't like their wings at all.
but to answer the OP's question - no, I don't think less of someone because of their job, unless their job is "criminal."

Not even a little bit of judgment. Good on you if you are making tips. Also, even dirty old men don't pay big for crappy service, so they have to be good at their jobs as well to make money.
In Chicago, we have Hooters and also The Tilted Kilt. My only objection is that a fair number of the girls at TTK have beer guts, and don't rock the uniform. Why? I can't speak for Hooters as I think I was in one, once, like ten years ago.0 -
It's not sleazy, but I don't have a very good opinion on a restaurant chain that makes their girls wear panty hose, slouch socks, and reeboks.
If you want to work somewhere like that, go apply to Twin Peaks or Bikinis. At least that way, you won't be sacrificing your style.0 -
I don't think there's anything wrong with it at all. Work is work, and if the women are comfortable doing it, why should anyone care?0

Yes. So long as she is attractive, a good person, and has a brain.0

I have no problem with hooters or my 18 year old FSU student daughter working there.0

A job is a job... bills gotta get paid.0

Hooters gets built up as this horrible place but the outfit isn't anything like tilted kilt or twin peaks so not sure what the fuss is about. Food is pretty much average as well, people rave about the wings but eh.0

It's WAY more common than you think actually. A friend of mine has a (fairly wealthy) work contact who uses a local, higher end restaurant as his prefered business meeting place. All because the "ladies" who work there know that a fair amount of business men (and women) will pay for the booze and blow once they get invited to the after hours parties. That's not just the customers objectifying them. They put themselves in that position and it may as well be prostitution.

^^ Very much this.
I will admit, though, that I'm less likely to choose Hooters as a meal option due to the fact that I've NEVER received good service when I've gone there (and I'm talking about different restaurants in different states, not just a single location).

TIL working as waitstaff is equivalent to prostitution.0 -
I worked there for a very brief period of my life. I'm just curious why somebody who uses a pop star as their profile photo has any right to say anything about where anybody is employed.
Let me tell you those nylons were a B*tch! Always running and expensive.0 -
rather than dignifying half of these posts with a reply, or baulk at how dumb this is, i will shrug.

Amen to that. I think the food is meh. I'd much rather work at Twin Peaks and wear this:

We have Tilted Kilt here with similar outfits0 -
Hooters was lame but tame. We have Tilted Kilt here which I find obnoxious. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I want to button up their shirts and tell them to get back to college.0

The food at Hooters sucks and the attractive waitresses (which very few are these days) doesn't out weigh the crappy over-priced food. Like always there are guys out there willing to spend their money on a chick that is just flirting with them with the dream that they might get to go home with them if they compliment their poorly covered up tribal band tattoo and give a big tip.0

I would never think less of someone who is working hard to make a living. However, I would definitely think less of someone who thought less of someone for working at Hooters - and treated them badly or judged them accordingly.
If wearing a certain type of t-shirt is enough to turn you from a gentlemen with good character to a complete a##$hole, you really should stay home. From what I heard from people who used to work there, most men were completely able to maintain their basic decency in the presence of women regardless of their uniform.0 -
Good wings, Hooter girls are confident in their own skin, a job is a job like modeling but while serving good wings.0
-
There was a Frasier episode that touched on this topic.
I see nothing wrong with working there, especially if you are trying to put food on the table or put yourself through school.
Would I date someone that worked there? Of course.0 -
Work is work. It pays the bills...0

Boom.
I actually don't even hold it against sex workers- many of them make excellent money and are quiet happy at it.
If you are happy doing your job- and it doesn't hurt anyone else and it serves your needs, you shouldn't be ashamed.

I didn't say anything actually! I was just asking questions and looking to hear different opinions.
