Before-I-Have-a-Baby Weight Loss

Hello everyone! I am a 24 year old mommy hopeful. I would like to have a baby within the next year but my body is in NO way ready for a baby. I'm currently at 187 lbs. and 5'4'' but I would like ot be down to 140 before I conceive, which will hopefully be around September/October.
So... Are there any moms, new moms, or moms to be with advice on the best way to get your body in shape for a pregnancy?
Thanks in advance!

I have heard so many glowing remarks from friends that adopted the Paleo Diet eating plan several months before starting to try to conceive. One second time mommy reported little to no morning sickness and 30 pounds less weight gain despite the fact the kiddo popped out 2 ounces bigger than her first (she went to 39 weeks with both babies).0

i am a new mom. i weigh 172 and want to get to 140. and i'm 5'8. my recommendations would be to take folic acid and a prenatal vitamin its good to start taking that before you get pregnant. and make sure you get the appropriate amounts of all foods. my friend had a difficult time getting pregnant while she was vegan. then she started eating everything and taking vitamins and now she is due in a couple weeks! good luck!!0

I'm trying to lose weight b4 having a baby( in Sept/Oct) too! Our weight & height are currently the same, I'm hoping to be down 30lbs by the end of the summer. Too bad I don't have any advice for you:frown: - I guess we can try to motivate each other to stay on track. I plan on starting a detox beginning of next month just to jumpstart things off & then I plan on really buckling down on the foods I eat & working out more. My ob/gyn also told me to start taking a vitamin now ( anything high in folic acid). I'm rambling now:yawn: sorry ......Good luck w/everything.0

What kind of detox are you gong to do? My doctor also told me to go ahead and start taking a vitamin, but I'm not sure which one to take.
Good luck to both of us! I can't wait to be a mom!0 -
I did this before my first DS. SO worth it. I had a great pregnancy and was at my pre-wt loss wt at delivery (lost 35-40 lbs). I exercised 4 days a week - 45 min of cardio and 20-25 min of weights and watched what I ate. This was long before websites like this (DS just turned 5!) so I made some rules for myself: I ate daily: 2 fruits, 3 veggies (one was a daily salad with low cal dressing), 2 dairy (milk with cereal, yogurt for snack). Desert once a week (planned for it ALL week!) and fast food once a week and it had to be a happy meal with diet soda plus a side salad. It worked really well-took about 9 months.0

I am in the same boat. I have 10 year old son and want to have another baby after I lose weight. I am following my calorie intake and taking Zumba classes. It's going to be a journey but I am ready.
I was 220 lbs when I had my son 10 years ago and gained 70 lbs with the pregnancy and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. So it's a great idea the you want to lose weight before getting pregnant.0 -

I am wanting to be pregnant anytime now. I decided to focus on weighty loss so to keep my mind off of trying to conceive.0

My advice may sound random or strange, I'm not meaning it to offend anybody, but here goes. I have 2 kids and was at a good weight when I got preggers with both of them. My advice is, just because you are thin starting out, don't think that makes it okay to gain more during. I had to watch everything I ate with my last one b/c I had gestational diabetes. I gained right at 45 lbs with him, my doc was okay with it b/c I had a condition called hydroamnios which made me weigh more. My son came out at 9 lbs 11 oz and 23 inches. At 5' tall he wrecked my body, I look like a roadmap to hell. There's a pregnancy pic on my profile, check that out. With my first one I had never been heavy, so I ate like crazy thinking it would magically fall off like you see on tv, WRONG!! I was fat until she turned 2, haha. Just stay conscious and aware during the pregnancy, and if your doc tells you to limit carbs, listen. The huge baby was an all natural birth and that is not fun, and I'm still working off the baby weight from him. Good luck to all of you, sorry I wrote so much.0

Feel free to add me! I have two little boys 3 and 4. I want to have a third soon but want my body back first. I would much rather lose it before than have to worry about it after. I'm almost there!! Good luck with everything!0

My doctor also told me to go ahead and start taking a vitamin, but I'm not sure which one to take.
Rainbow Light Pre-Natal One is a great pre-natal. You also want to be taking additional folic acid and a purified fish oil (Rainbow Light Smart Essentials DHA is a good one).
If you're drinking green tea to help with weight loss, stop because it has been linked with neural tube defects.0 -

I take one a day for women, a folic acid, and a calcium and vitamin d combo for the TTC and fish oil and apple cider vinegar for other benefits...one of the main things is the folic acid it is very important for the first 6 weeks of pregnancy so it is not something to wait to take until you find out your pregnant 'cause it is too late for the little baby )0 -
If you are unsure if what vitamins you are taking are good ones call your doctor and ask...or take in the bottles at your next appointment.0
