confused as to why when I add my elliptical training here it gives me one earning of caloric intake and when I am on the Precor elliptical I have at home it shows quite a difference. same weight used on both. here gives me 800+, elliptical indicates that I burned 300+. Is there a difference of actual burning and then actual calories I can add BECAUSE of the excersice? I don't want to eat all those extra calories. guh! want it off for good...sick of roller coaster.

There's really no way to quickly tell which is more accurate. They could both be wrong. I would suggest that you err on the side of the lower one and track how much weight you are losing. If you're losing more than expected, then it may be wrong. I would subtract 100 per hour from the number you're getting here anyway, and then subtract some more for good measure. Some people say don't eat back more than half, of what is estimated here. 400 and 300 aren't that far apart.

Just for reference, I find I get 9 calories/minute on the elliptical, and that's going pretty hard. 800 calories seems astronomical unless you're doing 90 minutes flat out.

The machines themselves tend to give really bogus measurements of calories burned. The best way is to wear a heart rate monitor.

heart rate monitor watch with a chest strap might give you a better estimate of your calories burned at least it will use your current heart rate and not just the machine stats. i use the polar ft4, ft7 is good too. bought mine at amazon but they sell them everywhere and I heard garmin brand is good too.

MFP is just estimates. Im coming round to thinking the rower is more accurate than other machines as theres an adjustment thing you cna do on the concept site plus you cna row for extended periods. Most people err on the safe side and just eat back a % if any.

People often overestimate their own effort.

I have this problem as well. MFP over estimates the # of calories burned. Same elliptical as you 350 calories in 30 minutes on the machine and MFP said I burned over 800. I go with the lower #

I usually just take about half of whatever MFP estimates.

This is why most people only eat back half their exercise calories.
